Abstract: There are many opportunities for freelance translators in the ever-expanding Language Services Industry. However, few undergraduate translation students are aware of how to break into it. This bachelor’s dissertation discusses translation as a profession. It touches on Translation Competence (Hurtado Albir, 2017; EMT, 2017; Galán-Mañas; López-García; Souza Júnior, 2023), education, translators’ working conditions, resumés, portfolios, prospecting for clients, etc. This bachelor’s dissertation is based on the author’s professional and academic experience, as well as on works by McKay (2011; 2015; 2017), Said (2013), Whitty (2014; 2017), and Compan (2020), among others. We can conclude that independence, proactivity, critical thinking, and commitment to learning are essential for translators. At the end of this bachelor’s dissertation, we offer suggestions of resources to assist in developing Translation Competence. We also present a Translation Industry jargon glossary.

Abstract: This research is an autoethnography aimed at describing and analyzing the
process of creating the book Apenas Histórias, a commented translation of Rudyard
Kipling's Just So Stories, spearheaded by students from the undergraduate program in
Translation Studies at the Federal University of Paraíba. As a student of the program
who also acted as translator and editor, I explore my personal and professional
experience throughout the translation, editing, and publication journey. This study
explores the underlying aspects of the translation process that led to the publication of
the work, highlighting its beginning, the challenges faced, the collaboration among
translators, the applied learning, and the further development of the translation skills of
those involved. The accounts provided here can be used as a source of research and
information for those interested in the fields of Translation Studies.

Abstract: The aim of this monograph is to map the theoretical framework used in the Postgraduate
Program in Translation at the University of Brasília (POSTRAD/UnB). First, 153 dissertations
were collected. Next, the references contained within these dissertations were extracted and
stored in a corpus in spreadsheet format, along with the publication data for the corresponding
dissertation. Analysis of this corpus enabled the identification of the most frequently cited
authors and works in the context of the program. This data and other findings are then explored
and presented in graphs. Examination of the data revealed that the main authors found in the
program's theoretical framework are linked to the field of translation. When looking at the most
cited authors, evidence pointing to the androcentrism and Eurocentrism of the disciplinary field
was found.

Abstract: Translation Studies in Brazil have been seeking institutionalization since the second half of the
20th century. With the development of factors that have driven the growth of this field of study,
we have arrived at a moment of introspection within the area, a movement termed "metaturn"
by Echeverri (2017). Therefore, this study aims to conduct a quantitative-qualitative
bibliometric analysis of the theoretical framework of the theses from the Graduate Program in
Translation Studies at the Federal University of Santa Catarina from 2013 to September 2023,
identifying the main referenced authors and their theoretical profile in relation to the research
conducted in the program. Additionally, the study compares this data with the theoretical
framework of theses from the University of Brasília, as surveyed by Pereira (2024). To conduct
this analysis, a survey of the reference corpus of the program's thesis was carried out in the
institutional repository of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. In total, data from 230 thesis
were collected, totaling 18.008 references, with an average of 80 references per thesis. The data
were stored in an online spreadsheet. The analysis of the program's data indicates a phase of
autonomy within the field of study, where the majority of the theoretical framework belongs to
authors directly related to Translation Studies. Finally, it is believed that the data collected in
this research will serve for future studies seeking to analyze how Translation Studies has been
consolidated in Brazil.
