Abstract: This research, entitled "The Gender of the Polis: the place of women in parliamentary
speeches" aims to examine how parliamentary speeches can reveal elements of male
domination, based on shorthand notes from the pre- and post-coup period of then-President
Dilma Rousseff. To this end, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is adopted as the method, as
proposed by Norman Fairclough, articulated with the theoretical perspectives of Pierre
Bourdieu and Heleieth Saffioti. This approach allows us to examine the elements present in
parliamentary representations and inform the development of analytical frameworks.
Considering that some of these representations reach up to 90 pages, systematization into
frameworks is necessary to condense the material. Through this organization, it was possible
to identify discourses structured around biological, religious, and moral justifications, which
operate as vectors for perpetuating female underrepresentation in politics, reaching a level
within the political arena that hinders the presence of these women and outside the arena,
discouraging their entry into political activity.

Abstract: This monograph investigates the experiences of people living with HIV/Aids since birth,
drawing from childhood memories to shed light on the so-called posit(hiv)e childhoods and
their historically invisible trajectories. It contextualizes the epidemic by differentiating the
pre-ART period — marked by moral panic, stigma, and the association of Aids with the
“gay plague” — from the post-ART period, when antiretroviral therapy transformed the
disease into a chronic condition, even though stigma persists. With a qualitative approach
grounded in the Social Sciences, particularly Anthropology, the research employs
semi-structured “comprehensive” interviews with three adults living with HIV through
vertical transmission — Lego, Lina, and Lírio — whose narratives reveal that HIV has
shaped everyday life since childhood, generating coping strategies and negotiations that
resonate into adulthood, so that chronicity does not present itself as a biographical rupture
but rather as a constitutive part of the “always lived.” The interviews address diagnostic
disclosure, school experiences, mourning, orphanhood, secrecy, and the ongoing impact of
stigma, connecting these memories to audiovisual productions such as Um Lugar para
Annie, A Cura, and Aquela Criança com AiD$ — the latter starring Lírio Nascimento, who
proposes a counter-hegemonic narrative and reimagines futures for these children. The
study demonstrates that understanding HIV requires going beyond the biomedical
dimension, taking into account its social, affective, and symbolic implications. By
recovering these “subterranean memories,” this research contributes to the Anthropology
of Health and to the fight against “social viruses,” reaffirming the need for public policies
that not only ensure access to treatment but also promote dignity, care, and the right to the
full experience of posit(hiv)e childhoods, adolescences, and youths.

Abstract: This paper analyzes how representations of the Northeastern Sertão influence the way people
view the region, exploring the construction of this image over time. The research examines the
impacts of the region's social and political transformations on cinematographic narratives,
investigating how these changes shaped the representation of the Sertão in national cinema,
discussing their implications for the cultural identity and public perception of the Sertão. Based
on a qualitative analysis, we investigate films such as O Auto da Compadecida (2000), Cine
Holliúdy (2012) and Bacurau (2019), in addition to the influence of the Cinema Novo
movement and the so-called "aesthetics of hunger" in contemporary cinema. We also address
the imagery of the sertão, historically marked by aridity, poverty and violence, contrasting this
simplistic view with the social, cultural and political complexity of the region. As specific
objectives, we seek to describe the representations of the sertão used in film productions, also
to understand the relationship between the representations of the sertão and reality based on
discussions about development and inequality, and to problematize the reproduction of
stereotypes in the representations in the nominated films. We conclude that cinema is a crucial
tool for shaping social perceptions, and that new narratives are needed that value the diversity
and cultural richness of the sertão, far from the market biases that often reduce the complexity
of the region to stereotypes.
