Abstract: Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain associated with cognitive symptoms,
fatigue, sleep disorders and psychiatric symptoms. The current prognosis is challenging, with
limited treatment options and impaired quality of life. Considering the increased use of
phytocannabinoids and their potential in the treatment of chronic pain, these substances may
represent an important therapeutic approach for fibromyalgia. OBJECTIVES: to gather studies
and analyze the available clinical evidence on the use of medicinal cannabis in the treatment of
fibromyalgia. METHODOLOGY: A search was conduced out using the following descriptors:
“fibromyalgia” AND “cannabis” on Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde do Ministério da Saúde (BVS
MS) and PubMed in the last 10 years. RESULTS: From a total of 181 citations, 9 studies were
included after screening the title, abstracts and full text. Of these studies, 2 were randomized
controlled trials, 4 observational studies, and 3 systematic reviews. CONCLUSION: Although
current evidence is limited, medicinal cannabis appears to be a safe alternative for the treatment
of fibromyalgia. However, more studies on this topic are important so that there is strong
evidence of its effectiveness in controlling pain in patients with fibromyalgia.

Abstract: Breast cancer represents the most prevalent and lethal neoplasm
in women today. It can be subclassified based on histology,
immunohistochemistry, degree of differentiation, and carried oncogenes.
Objective: The aim of the project is to assess the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic on the diagnosis of breast cancer in the state of Paraíba.
Methodology: This is an observational cross-sectional study, quantitative, and
predominantly descriptive, conducted through the collection of information
regarding histological, sociodemographic, and clinical characteristics. Data
collection was performed from medical records, gathering epidemiological and
current tumor characteristics. Descriptive analysis of the obtained data was
conducted by comparing multiple variables collected from breast cancer
diagnosis at two time points: pandemic (2020 and 2021) and control (2019 and
2022) periods, as well as by comparing these variables using the Chi-Square
and the Fisher’s exact test when feasible. Results: The data indicate a
detriment in the initial staging of patients, as they presented proportionally more
advanced stages during the pandemic period compared to the control period.
Furthermore, there was a notable decrease in annual diagnoses at the
institution in question that was not recovered in 2022. Conclusion: We
conclude that between the pandemic and control periods, there was a
predominance of more advanced early clinical stages during the pandemic,
illustrating that the detriments of COVID translated into harm for breast cancer
patients. Given that early diagnosis is crucial for optimal outcomes, this situation
resonates both in the lives of patients and in the cost to the healthcare system,
in the short and medium term, as interventions in advanced neoplasms are
notably more costly compared to early-stage neoplasms.

Abstract: This work presents an analysis of the effectiveness of ibogaine in the treatment of
substance use disorder, focusing on chemical dependency. Ibogaine is a hallucinogenic indole
alkaloid and is the main active ingredient in the root of iboga, a species of shrub native to the
African continent. Its potential in treating substance use disorders has gained increasing
attention in recent decades, driven by preliminary studies suggesting its benefits in treating
substance use disorder. OBJECTIVES: To review the evidence related to the use of ibogaine
in the context of drug addiction, in relation to efficacy and related side effects and risks.
METHODOLOGY: descriptive character, through an integrative literature review. Data were
collected from databases (Pubmed, Virtual Health Library and Cochrane Library) using
“substance-related disorders” descriptors; “ibogaine”; “therapy” searching for research
published in the last 5 years that addressed evidence on the use of ibogaine in the treatment of
chemical dependency in humans. Narrative reviews, abstracts and animal studies were
excluded. RESULTS: 38 articles were found, of which 8 articles were analyzed. Quantitative
and qualitative analysis revealed improvements in symptoms of depression, withdrawal and
dependence severity, as well as positive impacts on individuals' social and legal conditions in
the short and medium term. However, the temporal limitation of studies of up to 12 months
makes it difficult to assess the durability of these benefits. Adverse events, such as cardiac
arrhythmias, and deaths associated with the use of ibogaine have been described. Despite the
promising results, the search for more solid evidence remains a priority. The need for specific
clinical trials, consistent methodologies and further investigation are highlighted to support
the use of ibogaine in the treatment of substance use disorders.

Abstract: The present thesis aims to investigate the pharmacological properties, applications, and interactions of the plant Valeriana officinalis, widely used in traditional medicine for the treatment of sleep-related disorders and anxiety. The research was structured into four main stages: choosing the guiding question, literature search, data collection and analysis, and discussion of the results. The central question formulated was: “What is the general overview of studies on Valeriana officinalis and its drug interactions?”. The literature review was conducted through the CAPES virtual library, using descriptors in Health Sciences. A total of 790 studies were identified, of which 14 were selected after reading titles and abstracts, resulting in 10 eligible articles and 3 additional from gray literature. The results indicate that most studies are reviews, with an emphasis on experimental investigations. The analysis of the collected data allowed for the identification of various therapeutic properties of Valeriana officinalis, as well as its interactions with other medications. This work contributes to the understanding of the therapeutic potential of the plant and its implications in clinical practice, highlighting the importance of further research to elucidate its properties and safety in use.
