Abstract: This study sought to understand the history of rock in Paraíba, through the trajectory of the musical group “Os Quatro Loucos”, one of the first musical phenomena in the state. We investigated how the historical, political and cultural context of that decade shaped not only the music scene, but also the identity of the city of João Pessoa. We use the Oral History methodology, through the collection of highly relevant testimonies, given by musicians, family members and friends who witnessed or actively participated in this historical process. And also, as analytical support, the personal account of the author, son of former members and, therefore, part of the story. The results demonstrate that, in fact, the group was remarkable and influenced the musical life of the city of João Pessoa and also of its members, such as Zé Ramalho and Vital Farias, who continued their careers and achieved musical success on a national level. Another result of the research is the observation that all interviewees believe in the effective influence on the informal musicalization of the Miranda and Soares families, based on daily contact with rehearsals and the success of the group. The data indicates that the group's first formation had Golinha (drums), Floriano Miranda (bass and vocals), Vital Farias (guitar and vocals) and Lindolfo (vocals). Other data indicates several other formations, with emphasis on the last one, with Alice Soares, on keyboards.
