Abstract: This thesis discusses anthropologically the children and adolescents who, with their parental
authority suspended or withdrawn, experience the guardianship of the State in shelters in a
municipality in Paraíba. The daily life in the shelters, the concentrated listenings and the
listening of the children (in the institutional scope and in the development of the research) are
central to the ethnographic analysis. A set of qualitative research techniques are used, including
documentary mapping, bibliographic resources, observation of events, semi-structured
interviews, recorded conversations and research small corners with children and adolescents,
with dialogues and creation of drawings. The asymmetrical encounter, in terms of legal power,
regarding social, racial and gender hierarchies, in addition to generational tensions, among the
social actors with whom I maintained dialogue, namely: children and adolescents, their
families, agents of the State - Institutions of the Court, Children's Prosecutor's Office, Public
Defender's Office, Guardianship Council, OAB, Municipal Government Executive and Civil
Society Organization, is analyzed in an intersectional way. Understanding the processes that
result in these encounters of lives, especially within institutional shelters, is key to analyzing
state practices of regulating lives, showing how public policies are intended, statistics are built,
and technologies are used to govern lives. The stories of these children and adolescents in
shelters and their families, the experiences lived by professionals, provoke us to problematize
the contradictions of actions that, in seeking to promote rights, sew up others and create wounds,
as a “great hypocrisy (producing) reserved destinies,” in the words of an institutionalized child,
a research interlocutor, now an adolescent and an “cherished niece”.; Esta tesis aborda antropológicamente a los niños y adolescentes que, con su poder familiar

Abstract: From July to September, in Rio Tinto - PB, a musical community is formed, composed of marching bands, fanfares, and music bands, on the occasion of civic-military parades during the “Semana da Pátria”, and band gatherings held in other cities after the seventh of september. This dissertation discusses a particular fanfare, the "Antônia Luna Lisboa" Fanfare, belonging to the school of the same name in the municipal education network. It deals with the conflicts that arise from these young people's pursuit of expressing themselves, with their musical tastes, uniforms, and choreographies, in the context of a traditionally more reserved festivity. To achieve this, it relies on interdisciplinary approaches, from Visual Anthropology, Music, and History, to studies of rituals and performances, memory, body, and gender, articulating methodologies such as participant observation, deferred observation, filmic anthropology, and shared anthropology.

Abstract: The present dissertation is willing to discuss the effects and consequences of the territorial
conflict faced by the community of Porto do Capim, located in the center of the city of João
Pessoa-PB, due to the project of the historic center led by the municipal government. The
riverside community of Porto do Capim, in João Pessoa, Paraíba, has a rich trajectory of
formation and defense of its own territory. Taking shape from the 1940s onwards, the
community receives different flows of people and over time understands such diversity as a
constituent part of its identity from the relationship with the Sanhauá River (ASSAD, 2017).
In the 1980s and 1990s, a project to revitalize the historic center began, where the community
is located. Due to disagreements about the way in which such a project understands the
community’s permanence, the conflict begins, which has its moment of greatest tension in
2019, when the first houses are demolished. From these questions, the present work proposes
to bring some reflections on the formation of the riverside identity present in the residents of
Porto constituted from the daily relationship between the domestic groups and the groups with
the environment from the concept of domination (BARBOSA DA SILVA & MURA, 2018).
From this flow of people, ideas and materials, we want to shed light on some dynamics that
guide the formation of this identity and the relationship between this and the struggle for the
permanence of the community in its territory that fosters organizations such as the Associação
de Mulheres do Porto do Porto Capim (AMPC) and the collective of young Garças do
Sanhauá.

Abstract: This research aims to understand the relationships of sociability that young
students establish during the experience of collective housing in a student
residence maintained by a Federal Institute in a city in the countryside of Piauí. I
try to understand their trajectories of arrival at the student residence and their
motivations for this choice beyond economic issues as well. In the face of the
impossibility of a physical field, since with the pandemic, the residence-school
was closed, contact with interlocutors was brokered by digital communication and
information technologies -TIC'S, and five physical meetings, making me reflect
on the limits and reaches of ethnography in pandemic times. Ten students of both
genders attended this research, among residents and ex-residents, as well as
three professionals from the institution who work directly in the management and
organization of student housing. The data obtained during the research indicated
the process of consolidating student assistance on campus and the strategies of
coexistence and overcoming difficulties of students during their stays in the
student residence. I verified in the speeches of my interlocutors the existence
recognition importance of a student residence as an action that guarantees their
access and permanence to integrated high school and higher education, offered
by the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology of Piauí - IFPI,
Uruçuí Campus, in addition to the resignification of space and relationships that
are established by them in the place.
