Abstract: Language is conceived as a social practice constituted by historical, cultural, and ideological&#xD;
dimensions that contribute to the constitution of subjects and their ways of producing discourse.&#xD;
This perspective is directly associated with the writings of Bakhtin and the Circle, in which&#xD;
discourse is understood as an essentially dialogic phenomenon, marked by the interaction&#xD;
among different social voices and by the historicity of utterances. Based on this understanding,&#xD;
this thesis analyzes the utterances produced by the Deaf slammer Tamara Silva, also known as&#xD;
Kizy Poeta, in performances recorded on video and made available on YouTube. These&#xD;
productions address issues related to Deaf culture, the intersectional experience of being a Deaf&#xD;
woman, and the struggles for the recognition of her visual-gestural language and social&#xD;
belonging. Accordingly, the study is guided by the following research question: How are the&#xD;
utterances produced by the Deaf slammer Tamara Silva/Kizy Poeta constituted in video-&#xD;
recorded performances? The study assumes that her utterances are intrinsically connected to the&#xD;
historical and cultural issues underlying the constitution of Deaf identity, as well as to the social&#xD;
struggles and contexts of resistance experienced by the Deaf community over time. Its general&#xD;
objective is to analyze the utterances produced by Tamara Silva/Kizy Poeta in video-recorded&#xD;
performances. More specifically, the study seeks to identify the dialogic relations that constitute&#xD;
the intersection between Deaf cultural identity and womanhood; describe the discursive&#xD;
strategies employed in the Deaf slammer’s performances; and interpret the meanings&#xD;
constructed through her utterances, considering their socio-historical, cultural, and aesthetic&#xD;
dimensions. Her artistic production functions as a discourse of resistance by affirming Deaf&#xD;
cultural identity and legitimizing her position as a woman, with sign language serving as the&#xD;
primary means of expression, recognition, and cultural validation. The relevance of this&#xD;
investigation lies in its potential to expand discourse studies concerned with the cultural&#xD;
productions of Deaf subjects. By analyzing Tamara Silva/Kizy Poeta’s slam performances, this&#xD;
study also seeks to contribute to the recognition and appreciation of the Deaf community’s&#xD;
artistic productions as legitimate cultural, aesthetic, and political practices. Methodologically,&#xD;
this is a qualitative, exploratory study based on documentary research. The corpus comprises&#xD;
three video-recorded performances available on a digital platform: the artist’s self-introduction,&#xD;
her explanation of the thematic choice underlying the slam poem Feminismo Surdo [Deaf&#xD;
Feminism], and the performance of Feminismo Surdo itself. The analysis is grounded in Bakhtin&#xD;
and the Circle’s dialogic discourse analysis, which considers utterances to emerge from the&#xD;
historical, social, and cultural processes that shape subjects and constitute their modes of&#xD;
enunciation. The writings of Bakhtin and the Circle also provide the main theoretical framework&#xD;
for the thesis. The findings indicate that Tamara Silva/Kizy Poeta’s utterances constitute a&#xD;
discourse of resistance and struggle for the cultural recognition of Deaf identity and the&#xD;
legitimization of her position as a woman. Sign language is mobilized as the primary means of&#xD;
cultural and discursive validation.

    <summary type="text">Título: A infância e o velho graça: tradução e retraduções comentadas de histórias de Graciliano Ramos
Autor(es): Luna, Rossana Paulino de
Orientador: Alves, Daniel Antonio de Sousa
Abstract: This thesis revolves around the annotated English translation of the children's book A Terra dos Meninos Pelados (1939) and the annotated retranslations into English of three chapters from the memoir Infância (1945) — “Nuvens”, “Um Cinturão”, and “O Moleque José” —, all written by Graciliano Ramos (1892-1953) and presenting perspectives on childhood. The thesis is divided as follows: the chapter following the introduction presents the theoretical basis of the research and — supported by authors such as Oseki-Dépré (2021), Benjamin (2008), Derrida (2002), Berman (1988, 1995, 2002), Bertacco (2003), Alves (2024), Bassnet (2014), Kremer (2007), Oittinen (2012), and Nancy (2006) — discusses i) the complexity of the translation task; ii) issues that involve the links connecting the death of the Author, the translator’s responsibility for his/her own interpretation and the translation project; iii) translation as a decision-making process based on Levý (2012) and Pym (2005); iv) the translation of literary texts in prose; and v) the dichotomy between “Domestication” and “Foreignization” of a translated text. The subsequent chapter deals with annotated translation as an academic genre and presents the projects that guided the translation processes of the start texts. Subsequently, the reader will find the chapter that presents the final products of translation and retranslation, the critical-discursive comments on the translation problems encountered during the process of rendering these start texts into English, and explanations on how these problems were solved. Given the impossibility of covering all aspects of the start texts that are open to commentary, the comments focus on four aspects: (I) verses and seven-syllable verses, (II) the Graciliano style, (III) foreignized and domesticated elements, and (IV) art as vision and other literary resources. This work is justified by the didactic potential that reflections on the creative-translation process encapsule, by its contribution to the history of translation (since it exposes a translation as the product of an interpretative and ideological process carried out by a culturally, socially, and temporally determined human being), and by the quality and aesthetic complexity of Graciliano Ramos' work. To conclude, this work reflects on the different motivations for registering comments based on translation problems, on the benefits of annotated translations for the very person of the translator and for the final product of their work, and presents a structural proposal for the organization of a written translation project.; RESUME.

Abstract: The research aims to investigate how aesthetic and ideological representations&#xD;
of Maria de Padilla are constructed, based on the Romancero General, ó&#xD;
Coleccion de Romances Castellanos Anteriores al Siglo XVIII, vol. 02, and how&#xD;
they are inscribed in the character Carmen (Mérimée 1845), articulated with other&#xD;
fictional productions about the same character, Bizet (1875) and Saura (1983), in&#xD;
order to locate how the fictional (Iser, 1999) interferes in the cultural construction&#xD;
of popular traditions and cults. The idea is to promote a debate about the&#xD;
relationships between the fictional/imaginary literary (Iser, 1999) and the&#xD;
anthropological imaginary (Durand, 2002) and the Afro-Brazilian religious&#xD;
imaginary (Augras, 2009) in the sociocultural formation of subjects, based on&#xD;
literature, in order to contribute to the permanent construction of dialogue with&#xD;
Literature, as an aesthetic expression and textual manifestation that enables the&#xD;
reading of the world and its myths, showing, through Carmen and Maria Padilla,&#xD;
that the popular religious imaginary often uses fiction to construct its rites.&#xD;
Through this approach, we intend to demonstrate, through the analysis of&#xD;
Carmen de Mérimée, that the "mythologies" surrounding the figure of the Pomba&#xD;
Gira have some relation to the fictional imagination when it recreates, through&#xD;
acts of pretense — selection, combination, and as if — the representation of&#xD;
historical and controversial figures, such as Maria de Padilla, la reyna de Castilla,&#xD;
lover of Pedro the Cruel, crowned queen after death and transformed into Bari&#xD;
Cralisa, consequently 'reborn/recreated' as a Pomba Gira in&#xD;
Umbanda/Quimbanda in Brazil, and that, from her, one can speak of the concept&#xD;
of "empadilhamento" (a term implying a kind of manipulation or manipulation of&#xD;
the character) as an aesthetic/ideological element that permeates the character&#xD;
Carmen, even though it is a 21st-century concept.; RESUMEN. La investigación tiene como objetivo investigar cómo se construyen las&#xD;
representaciones estéticas e ideológicas de María de Padilla, basadas en el&#xD;
Romancero General, ó Coleccion de Romances Castellanos Anteriores al Siglo&#xD;
XVIII, vol. 02, y cómo se inscriben en el personaje Carmen (Mérimée 1845),&#xD;
articulado con otras producciones ficticias sobre el mismo personaje, Bizet&#xD;
(1875) y Saura (1983), para ubicar cómo lo ficticio (Iser, 1999) interfiere en la&#xD;
construcción cultural de tradiciones y cultos populares. La idea es promover un&#xD;
debate sobre las relaciones entre el imaginario literario ficticio/imaginario (Iser,&#xD;
1999) y el imaginario antropológico (Durand, 2002) y el imaginario religioso&#xD;
afrobrasileño (Augras, 2009) en la formación sociocultural de sujetos, basada en&#xD;
la literatura, con el fin de contribuir a la construcción permanente del diálogo con&#xD;
la Literatura, como expresión estética y manifestación textual que permite la&#xD;
lectura del mundo y sus mitos, mostrando, a través de Carmen y María Padilla,&#xD;
que el imaginario religioso popular a menudo utiliza la ficción para construir sus&#xD;
ritos. Mediante este enfoque, pretendemos demostrar, a través del análisis de&#xD;
Carmen de Mérimée, que las "mitologías" que rodean la figura de la Pomba Gira&#xD;
tienen alguna relación con la imaginación ficticia cuando recrea, mediante actos&#xD;
de simulación —selección, combinación y como si— la representación de figuras&#xD;
históricas y controvertidas, como María de Padilla, la reina de Castilla, amante&#xD;
de Pedro el Cruel, coronada reina después de la muerte y transformada en Bari&#xD;
Cralisa, consecuentemente "renacida/recreada" como una Pomba Gira en&#xD;
Umbanda/Quimbanda en Brasil, y que, a partir de ella, se puede hablar del&#xD;
concepto de "empadilhamento" (un término que implica una especie de&#xD;
manipulación o manipulación del personaje) como un elemento&#xD;
estético/ideológico que impregna al personaje de Carmen, aunque sea un&#xD;
concepto del siglo XXI.

Abstract: This thesis aims to map the research on Translation Studies conducted at public&#xD;
universities in the Northeast region of Brazil. The survey encompassed the&#xD;
identification of universities in the Northeast region, followed by the identification of&#xD;
postgraduate programs with research lines on Translation Studies. Additionally, the&#xD;
main academic advisors involved were identified, and also the categories and&#xD;
quantification of studies conducted in each Brazilian state. This research is quantitative&#xD;
and exploratory in nature, grounded in the works of Pagano; Vasconcellos (2003),&#xD;
Alves; Vasconcellos (2016), and Camargo; Franco Aixelá (2019), with the distinctive&#xD;
geographical focus of highlighting, consolidating, and exalting research in translation&#xD;
in Northeast Brazil. The study aims to contribute to the consolidation of Translation as&#xD;
a disciplinary field in the country, providing a comprehensive and in-depth&#xD;
understanding of the panorama of Translation Studies in this specific regional context.&#xD;
Upon completing the compilation, it was possible to confirm the rise of research on&#xD;
Translation Studies and the importance of institutionalizing this disciplinary field in&#xD;
Brazil.
