Abstract: This monograph aims to conceptually and practically address the term gesture in music, with a&#xD;
specific focus on gesture in the compositional process. Based on bibliographical research and&#xD;
practical experiences with compositional gestures, as well as the structuring and analysis of the&#xD;
Grimm Brothers' tale "The Elves and the Shoemaker," I discuss the compositional methodology&#xD;
and processes I used to develop musical gestures. These gestures perform a subjective&#xD;
transformation between text, music, and imagery (mental images), coherently and linearly&#xD;
accompanying the events of the text. Finally, as the result of this final undergraduate project&#xD;
(TCC II), and as a product of research and reflections on the subject, I explore aspects of the&#xD;
application of the concept of gesture in the composition of the piece Os Homenzinhos (Die&#xD;
Wichtelmänner) for string orchestra.

Abstract: Este trabajo aborda el desarrollo de la banda sonora para el espectáculo A Causa Secreta, una producción del Colectivo Alfenim, inspirada en el cuento homónimo de Machado de Assis y adaptada por el director Márcio Marciano al contexto de un circo de horrores. La investigación explora las etapas del proceso creativo, centrándose en el enfoque de dramaturgia colaborativa adoptado por el Colectivo, así como em las especificidades técnicas y estéticas que contribuyeron a la construcción de una atmósfera singular para la puesta en escena. El universo sonoro propuesto buscó crear una interacción entre instrumentos como clarinete, rabeca, pífano y berimbau, junto con recursos digitales como distorsión, reverb, delay y loop, brindando libertad para activar archivos de audio pregrabados, ejecutar partituras previamente compuestas e interactuar con las sutilezas de la escena a través de interpretaciones improvisadas. La metodología narrativa fue seleccionada para documentar el proceso de creación musical, destacando las experiencias subjetivas y las interacciones interpersonales que influyeron en la construcción de la banda sonora. En su conclusión, la investigación sugiere que la obra artística del siglo XXI, ejemplificada por el espectáculo A Causa Secreta, tiende a compilar y filtrar uma amplia gama de referencias, resultando en un producto innovador y auténtico; no necesariamente por la invención de algo completamente nuevo, sino por la sensibilidad para organizar pequeños elementos hasta que emerja una visión de lo novedoso.

Abstract: The Theory of Musical Contour has increasingly been applied in Brazil and has also been known as an important tool for musical analysis and composition. In this paper, the application of the theory on the compositional process went through as a guideline for musical cohesion and coherence. Its concepts and premises had a role in guiding the composition of a piece for flute, clarinet, cello, basson and percussion, entitled Em Forma de Feitiço. This piece presents musical material generated from melodic and duration contours extracted from two well known songs that represent this rythm in the way we know it nowadays. Starting from such contours from popular music, it was possible, through operations based on the Theory of Musical Contour, to generate melodic elements for the composition, as well as vertical resultants, respecting the voice leading guided by the contours chosen. It was possible to observe, during the development of this paper, various possibilities that the Theory of Musical Contour can provide to a compositional process, knowing, however, that there is still much to be explored.
