This paper analyses the development of the Minibiblioteca Livre Livros Livres project since its inception within the Berilo Borba Sectoral Library (BSBB) of the Centre for Applied Social Sciences (CCSA) at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), as perceived by the librarian/supervisor of the project. This is a descriptive study based on participatory research, using a structured questionnaire and descriptions drawn from participants’ accounts of their experiences during the Integrated Practice Laboratory IV module in the 2024.2 term as data collection tools. The data reveals that the notion of definitive ownership of a book – “it’s mine” – remains strong, in contrast to the idea of letting go of books, the circulation of copies, and the encouragement of book donations by the academic community, all of which contribute to the longevity of the project, which focuses on making literary works available to its users. The ‘Minibiblioteca Livre Livros Livres’ project demonstrates that there are other ways to promote the cultural and social enrichment of the UFPB academic community by encouraging reading, free of charge and on a mobile basis. The study seeks to highlight the importance of the internship in the education and knowledge development of Library Science students, as well as to describe the activities performed during this period and to understand the relevance of this sectoral information center for information services. The research is characterized as descriptive, based on observation and the execution of professional practices, with a qualitative approach experienced throughout the internship period. The results demonstrate the importance of practical experience for the development of technical and interpersonal skills, as well as its role in preparing students for the job market. The study highlights that, given the advancement of digital technologies, library activities have migrated from analog to electronic methods, requiring interoperability standards such as MARC21, AACR2, and ISBD. The general objective was to propose the expansion and com- plementation of the MARC21 format fields for the Rare Books collection of the Central Library of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), aiming for a more exhaustive description of the bibliographic heritage. The methodol- ogy is characterized as qualitative bibliographic research, in addition to an experience report resulting from voluntary activities in the extension project "Preservation and Dissemination of the Rare Books Collection of the BC/UFPB". The results demonstrated that the institution's current catalog- ing uses Level 1 description (minimum), which proves insufficient for rare books, which require Level 3 (exhaustive) to record details such as water- marks, bookplates, binding types, and state of conservation. As a proposal, this work suggests the systematic adoption of MARC21 note fields (5XX tags), exemplifying their application to items in the collection to ensure ac- curate information retrieval and the preservation of historical memory. It concludes that detailed cataloging is an essential tool for scientific research and for safeguarding the physical object as a unique heritage. Methodologically, it is characterized as an exploratory and descriptive research, of a qualitative nature, based on bibliographic research, enabling the articulation between theory and practice through extension experience. The procedures involved bibliographic research, direct observation, recording of activities and interaction with the technical team, allowing a reflective analysis of the studied context. As results, the organization, cleaning, classification and cataloging of part of the bibliographic collection are evident, as well as the technical treatment of the photographic collection, including cleaning, storage and thematic classification. The importance of interdisciplinary action in the management of collections and in the effectiveness of the actions developed is also observed. It is concluded that the technical reserve constitutes a fundamental space for the preservation, organization, and dissemination of cultural heritage, going beyond its function as a mere safekeeping facility by consolidating itself as an environment for research, teaching, and outreach, in addition to reinforcing the need for strategies that broaden its visibility and contribute to the democratization of access to information.
