Título: Produção científica em cuidados paliativos e terapia ocupacional: revisão de escopo.
Autor(es): Nascimento, Wanessa Maria Silva do.
Orientador: Moreira, Márcia Adriana Dias Meirelles.
Abstract: Objective: Characterize the scientific production on palliative care and occupational
therapy published in online journals and identify the approaches addressed in the
publications selected for the study. Method: This is a scoping review, whose research was
conducted in the MEDLINE, LILACS, IBECS and INDEX PSI databases, in articles published
between 2000 and July 2019, with a sample of 29 studies. Result: The analysis resulted in
six categories that addressed subjects on the profile, role, interventions, difficulties,
information technology and home care of the occupational therapy in palliative care, with
a predominance of articles in English. Conclusion: The findings of this study reveal little
evidence on the profile of occupational therapists and great challenges - such as updates
related to the current practice and the educational curriculum, and the development of
new research aimed at demonstrating the effectiveness of interventions focused on
improving the occupational performance and quality of life of the patient is essential.

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the dysphagia influence on the quality of life of cancer patients
in palliative care (PC). Methods: An exploratory cross-sectional field study with
observational, descriptive and quantitative analysis was carried out to assess swallowing
(orofacial myofunctional evaluation – MBGR protocol- and the dysphagia risk evaluation -
PARD protocol) and quality of life (SWAL-QOL-PT) of cancer patients, excluding tumors of
head and neck. The Chi-square test and the R statistical software (v2.11.0) were used, and
significance lower than 5% was considered. Results: A total of 35 patients were included,
with female prevalence (77%), mean age 45 (± 12) years, and diagnosis of breast (37) and
lung cancer (14%). In relation to oromiofunctional structures, patients had alterations in
lip sensitivity (11.5%), mobility and tongue functionality (14%), besides difficulty in
opening the mouth (8.6%). The evaluation of the stomatognathic system showed that most
of them perform breathing nasal type (91%), maintaining efficient chewing and
articulation. It was still observed that some symptoms related to changes in swallowing
were more present: in liquid and solid consistency, cough was noticed (20.0% and 8.6%
respectively), and in pasty consistency, stasis in oral cavity (8.6%) and prolonged feeding
time (8.6%) were highlighted. Changes in swallowing influenced patients' quality of life
(37%), associated with food escape, stasis, noise and cough in the three consistencies.
Conclusion: The occurrence of dysphagia declines the quality of life of cancer patients in
palliative care. The speech therapist intervention favors the maintenance of free oral
diet, with rehabilitation and better quality of life of cancer patients.

Abstract: Objetive: To verify bibliometric indexes for Masters and Ph.D. theses on palliative care and chronical diseases published in Brazil. Methods: A bibliometric study through searching Masters and Ph.D. theses finished between 2009 and 2018, on the database of the Brazilian Digital Library of theses from CAPES Foundation and the portal Domínio Público. Results: The corpus was composed by 36 studies (28 Masters and 8 Ph.D. theses). We could find that in 2014 there was a higher number of research, and the Federal University of Santa Catarina was the institution where most theses were written on the theme. Also, its hospital was the most recurrent case in study. Conclusion: Bibliometric indicators indicated that nurses developed a larger number of studies. Most of the studies are carried out through the qualitative approach and the scenario with the most research was the location of the hospital.

Abstract: Objective: Describe the experience of physiotherapists caring for patients with
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) undergoing palliative care in a hospital setting.
Methods: A descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study was conducted with physiotherapists
from the internal medicine and surgical wards of a public hospital in the city of João
Pessoa, Paraíba-Brazil, using a semi-structured interview and empirical material submitted
to the content analysis technique. Results: Eight physiotherapists were interviewed and
four thematic categories emerged from the data analysis: I- Understanding of palliative
care; II- Strategies of the physiotherapists to promote palliative care for these patients; III-
Interaction of the physiotherapists with the multiprofessional team promoting palliative
care in ALS; IV- Experience of the physiotherapists in assisting these patients. Conclusion:
The physiotherapists based their arguments on their professional experience, highlighting
the need for further discussions and a better understanding of the subject among these
professionals to align theory with practice.
