Abstract: Mastitis is one of the main diseases affecting dairy production, frequently associated with
bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus and aggravated by increasing antimicrobial resistance. In
this context, the in vitro antimicrobial activity of Cannabis sativa extracts was evaluated against
strains of Staphylococcus aureus (bovine and caprine), Staphylococcus chromogenes (bovine),
and Staphylococcus caprae (caprine), isolated from herds in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. The
assay was performed using the disk diffusion method (Kirby–Bauer), employing extracts rich
in cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), isolated cannabigerol (CBG),
and their combinations (CBD:CBG, THC:CBG, THC:CBD). The extracts were initially diluted
in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to obtain a concentration of 30 mg/mL and subsequently diluted
in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) to reach 3 mg/mL. Serial dilutions at a 1:3 ratio were then
performed, resulting in concentrations ranging from 3.0 to 0.01 mg/mL, with inhibition zone
readings taken at 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours. A concentration- and time-dependent effect was
observed, with a significant increase in antimicrobial activity after 12 hours, followed by
stabilization, and optimal activity at concentrations above 1.0 mg/mL. Among the treatments,
the CBD:CBG combination showed the highest mean inhibition zone, outperforming the
isolated extracts. Bovine-origin strains demonstrated greater susceptibility compared to caprine
strains, with S. caprae showing the highest resistance profile. It can be concluded that
phytocannabinoids, particularly in combined formulations and at concentrations ≥ 1.0 mg/mL,
exhibit promising antimicrobial potential against staphylococci associated with mastitis,
indicating possible future application as alternative or adjunct therapeutic agents.

Abstract: The study in question aimed to carry out a market analysis for the implementation of a beauty salon in
the neighborhood of Aldeia dos Camarás in Recife - PE and surrounding neighborhoods, from the
perspective of the consumer market. The methodology used was data collection through the Google
Forms platform, an online form with objective and discursive questions about consumers. The results
show that, investigating exclusively from the perspective of demand, the enterprise presents good signs
of viability, taking into account that the population under study showed itself capable of contributing to
the establishment. The research indicates a possible viability in relation to the consumer market, since
the socioeconomic profile of the population in question was shown to be above the Brazilian average
salary and there is demand for the service.

Abstract: Diaphragmatic hernia occurs due to disruption of the diaphragm musculature, allowing
abdominal organs to displace into the thoracic cavity. In small animals, it is most frequently
caused by trauma, especially automobile accidents. Animals diagnosed with diaphragmatic
hernia represent a medical emergency, requiring immediate clinical stabilization and early
referral for surgical intervention. Surgical management of diaphragmatic hernia in geriatric cats
is challenging due to reduced cardiopulmonary reserve and increased anesthetic risk. Chronic
diseases common at this age may impair immunity and wound healing. Coinfection with
retroviruses, such as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), exacerbates the surgical scenario
by promoting immunosuppression, increasing the risk of opportunistic infections, impairing
healing, and compromising the inflammatory response. Therefore, prior stabilization, nutritional
support, and perioperative monitoring are essential for surgical success. This case report
describes the clinical, diagnostic, surgical, and postoperative management of a 14-year-old
geriatric cat coinfected with FIV, affected by circumferential and radial traumatic diaphragmatic
hernia. On physical examination, the animal showed paradoxical dyspnea, muffled cardiac
auscultation, and abdominal pain on palpation. Ultrasonography confirmed the hernia, and
surgical correction was successfully performed 24 hours later, followed by regular
postoperative care and weekly follow-up visits. Surgery remains the only effective treatment
and must be carefully planned and conducted with extreme attention to the pre-, intra-, and
postoperative periods, considering the patient’s advanced age and comorbidities to optimize
prognosis and reduce complications.

Abstract: Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) constitute the main
retroviral infections in the medical practice of domestic cats, with great clinical and
epidemiological relevance and a significant impact on their health and longevity. This study
aimed to determine the prevalence in domestic cats treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the
Federal University of Paraíba, between 2023 and 2025, and to describe the main associated
clinical and epidemiological aspects. A total of 144 cats were evaluated, undergoing anamnesis,
clinical examination, and diagnosis through a rapid immunochromatographic test that detects
FeLV antigen and FIV antibody. Additional data regarding living conditions, reproductive
history, presence of comorbidities, and results of complementary examinations were obtained
through interviews with owners and analysis of clinical records. The observed prevalence was
45.0% for FeLV and 8.3% for FIV, in addition to cases of coinfection, configuring a concerning
epidemiological scenario that surpasses rates described in other regions of Brazil. Infection
affected animals of different ages, sexes, breeds, and lifestyles, evidencing broad population
distribution. Among the clinical findings, progressive weight loss, lymphadenopathy, chronic
stomatitis, anemia, and opportunistic infections were highlighted, confirming the
immunosuppressive nature of retroviral infections. The low vaccination coverage identified
against FeLV, associated with the high percentage of positive animals, demonstrates
weaknesses in preventive strategies and the urgent need to intensify actions in veterinary public
health. It is concluded that systematic screening, vaccination, and segregation of infected
animals are indispensable tools to reduce viral spread, promote feline welfare, and support more
effective clinical practices.
