Through a literature review it was possible to conclude that this is one more challenge to be faced is the demand for teacher training and preparation for the effective use of digital technologies. It is critical that teachers know all about these accessible tools, know how to use them successfully pedagogically, and are able to continually investigate additional opportunities and resources. Interest in continuing education programs is critical for the specialized development of teachers and the fruitful execution of digital technologies in Portuguese language instruction. This study discusses the importance of reading young adult literature in the classroom through reading mediation. This qualitative and descriptive research is based on the work of Ceccantini (2000; 2021), Antunes (2019), Chambers (2007a; 2007b), Luft (2010), and Solé (1998), among others. It starts from the contrast between the traditional view, which considers transitivity as a categorical property of the verb, and the functionalist perspective, which understands it as a scalar phenomenon related to syntactic, semantic, and discourse factors. The theoretical framework draws on studies of traditional grammar, functionalism, and grammar teaching, highlighting contributions from Givón, Hopper and Thompson, as well as Brazilian scholars in the field. Methodologically, this is a qualitative, bibliographical, and documentary research with a descriptive-analytical orientation. The corpus consists of two 7th-grade Portuguese textbooks selected from the National Textbook Program (PNLD). The analysis examines definitions, examples, and teaching guidelines used to present verbal transitivity. Results show that although the textbooks are text-based and propose contextualized activities, they predominantly adopt a normative definition that treats transitivity as a verb’s syntactic requirement for complements, without exploring its scalar and discourse dimensions. The study concludes that the functionalist perspective can contribute to a more contextualized and reflective approach to grammar teaching. From this perspective, the study reports and analyses pedagogical activities developed in classes in the final years of primary education, highlighting how the conscious and planned use of technologies can promote the development of students' language skills. To this end, it is based on current research that demonstrates the contribution of these resources to strengthening pedagogical practices, ranging from lesson planning to their effective application in the classroom. In terms of methodology, this is a qualitative study of an applied, bibliographic and explanatory nature. A literature review on digital literacy and digital media was conducted in the SciELO and Dialnet databases, which revealed relevant studies that reinforce the need for articulation between the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC) and the use of digital technologies in the school environment. The results indicate positive impacts from the use of technologies for pedagogical purposes, especially in student engagement and knowledge construction. The scientific relevance of this work consists of contributing to the debate on innovative practices that assist teachers in their pedagogical journey, in the face of contemporary educational demands.
