Abstract: Alternative land use promotes changes in land features due to anthropogenic interventions that modify soils, suppress flora, and interfere with water resources. This scenario presents a challenge for the implementation of conservation units, in order to protect relevant natural characteristics such as aquifers, geological formations, and remnants of native vegetation. This situation applies to the Environmental Protection Area (EPA) created in the city of Santa Rita-PB in 2023, whose purpose is to conserve the water source that maintains public water supply and is part of the Atlantic Forest biome. Therefore, the objective of this work is to map areas of sand mining and monocultures in the Tibiri River EPA, through the analysis of multitemporal images captured by orbital sensors. Methodologically, the study integrated geospatial data (satellite images and aerial photogrammetry), historical documents (government reports), and public data available in the Mining Geographic Information System and the Rural Environmental Registry System, in addition to field research. Consequently, the research results highlighted the natural elements that have been affected by these economic activities over time: territorial disruption of ephemeral lagoons (tributaries of the Tibiri River), deforestation of remaining Atlantic Forest areas, and suppression of typical Cerrado flora. The hypothesis that these modifications occurred gradually and intensified during the transition from the 20th to the 21st century, due to the interconnection of the agricultural sector, sand mining, and the execution of public works (road construction and expansion of the electricity sector), was confirmed. However, the hypothesis that illegal mining threatens the conservation of the EPA's natural resources was refuted; rather, sand extraction occurs in a regulated manner, through the granting of mining titles by the competent bodies, mainly under the licensing regime issued by the Municipal Public Authority. Furthermore, it was found that the Legal Reserve and the Permanent Preservation Areas, located in the largest landholding in the city (78,7 km2), contributed to conserving the remnants of native vegetation, and currently, these protected territories are part of the Tibiri River EPA. The research also identified pineapple and sugarcane monocultures around the river, due to the characteristics that differentiate each crop, in addition to the particularities of the plants. These results are relevant because mapping land use and its temporal evolution is one of the prerequisites for the continuous planning of conservation units, especially in the sustainable use modality.

Abstract: Human societies are facing an unprecedented environmental and climate crisis that threatens not only citizens' quality of life, but ultimately, in the long term, the very continuity of human life on Earth. In this context, Environmental Education is a fundamental tool for the formation and awareness of students regarding their behaviors, knowledge, attitudes, values, and practices related to environmental conservation. The school environment constitutes a privileged space for addressing emerging issues in society, including ecological, social, economic, cultural, and political matters that affect both society and the environment and may be approached through Environmental Education, Environmental Education is included in the 4th Sustainable Development Goal, which aims to promote inclusive and quality education. This research is qualitative in nature and adopts a case study approach. It aims to analyze teachers' and students' perceptions regarding how Environmental Education is developed within the school context, as well as the pedagogical practices and approaches related to environmental themes carried out at school. Data production occurred through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires applied to teachers and students, seeking to understand their perceptions of Environmental Education in the school context. As complementary support for the analysis, institutional documents such as the Political-Pedagogical Project (PPP) were also consulted, contributing to the contextualization of pedagogical practices and interdisciplinarity related to environmental issues. The collected data were analyzed through Content Analysis, according to Laurence Bardin (2016). In summary, the results of this dissertation indicate that there is institutional openness to environmental debate, although it is still anchored in more conservative discourses regarding environmental issues.

Abstract: The raft is one of the oldest vessels, around thirty thousand years old, and is used by different social groups. In the past, this means of transportation had several uses, such as fishing, promoting commercial relations and the crossing of people and cargo, today being used for fishing and tourism activities. In the 16th century, there was a mixture of indigenous, Portuguese and African people on this vessel in its adaptation/construction. It is possible to find rafts in several countries and continents, such as: Asia, Africa and India, but it was on the beaches of Northeast Brazil that they began to be seen to this day, mainly due to the formation of maritime and coastal communities in which the Jangadeiros live, mainly or partially, from fishing and tourism. Therefore, rafters are resistance fishermen, who are part of one of the specific branches of artisanal fishing, which denies the thesis that they were doomed to disappear, with their respective rafts, by some authors of the time (1957-2011), due to modern vessels (industrial) and technological. Thus, the general objective was to analyze the know-how of the rafters in the south of Pernambuco, which allowed their resistance over time. The study was carried out in Rio Formoso, Tamandaré and São José da Coroa Grande, municipalities located on the south coast of Pernambuco, and which are located in an environmental protection area (APA Costa dos Corais). The target audience were the rafters who continue to exist and reproduce using the raft as a means of transportation to acquire their fish (income) and tourism to this day. The research had a qualitative approach and ethnographic study, based on semi-structured interviews, direct observations, guided tours and use of the snowball sampling technique, where one interviewee indicates another and so on. This methodological design enabled the production/realization of social cartography, to generate representative maps of the rafters' terrestrial and marine environments, with a collection of photographs of the rafters' daily lives. A total of 25 rafters were interviewed, analyzing their knowledge, environmental impacts present in these communities and the recognition of their territories. In general, the rafters have been adapting their activities in fishing and tourism, also in their fishing gear, in the profitability of fish sales in their municipalities, but with the problem of environmental impacts in their territories. Therefore, it is concluded that the rafters have new socio-environmental dynamics in these activities, maintaining their traditionalities and sustainable forms of fishing whenever possible. Even with great difficulties, whether due to the reduction of fish, or the lack of support from public powers and policies (federal, state and municipal), or pollution, deforestation of mangroves and real estate speculation, this traditional community still resists. In other words, they maintain their secular maritime culture, with their rafts and adaptations to the capitalist world in the 21st century, possibilities of production and social reproduction for many subjects and communities that depend directly on the fact of being and becoming a rafter.

Abstract: Nowadays, the imbalance of the greenhouse effect is readily apparent: planet’s average
temperature rises, sudden climate changes and the similarity of the climate perceived in the
different seasons of the year, interfering in agriculture and other forms of production.
Considering the context of climate imbalance, and to create a global mechanisms consensus to
contain the harmful effects of global warming, was ratified in 1997, the Kyoto Protocol,
currently considered the most important tool in the fight against the harmful effects of climate
change . Among the mechanisms under the Protocol is the Clean Development Mechanism -
CDM, which allows signatory developed countries to invest in projects to reduce emission or
capture of greenhouse effect gases, executed in developing countries, through the purchase
certificates of reduction / capture of greenhouse effect gases, crediting the results obtained
and computing them to calculate the targets set. Considering that, the CDM is the only
alternative that is directly applicable to Brazil as a developing country, which is why it is the
object of this study. Through historical research, literature and legislation, the positive and
negative aspects of the CDM are identified, in the second one proposing suggestions for
improvement. Finally, brazilian interests are treated in the CDM scenario and it is concluded
by the efficacy of this mechanism of Kyoto’s Protocol flexibility in front of socioeconomic
and ambient aspects, even though it suggests improvements on its instrumentalisation.
