Abstract: This research carries out a Social Impact Assessment of the multiplier effect of
teachers qualified by UFPB’s Financial Specialization Course on the performance
of students from public schools in Paraíba who took part in ENEM in 2018. The
students’ performance refers to the following ENEM knowledge areas: Languages,
Codes and their Technologies, Natural Sciences and their Technologies and Mathematics and its Technologies. This study reviews the literature on the subject of
financial education, describing it as a policy in teacher training with the aim of bringing it to schools and the school community. The main objective of this research is
to estimate the causal effect, i.e. the performance of students on the ENEM in
public schools in Paraíba, after they have been students of teachers qualified by the
Specialization Course in Financial Education at UFPB. To achieve this goal, the
econometric method Propensity Score Matching (PSM) was used, combined with
matching techniques and control groups. The results were a significant improvement in the grades of public school students, generated by the lessons given by
the course teachers. This contributed to disseminating knowledge about financial
education to the school community

Abstract: In this study we intend to discuss the possible impacts caused by the lionfish,
a marine fish of the Pterois volitans species, which over recent years has been
responsible for causing damage to several native marine species, due to its high
reproduction capacity, and for presenting a high predation rate. In this context,
initially two mathematical models will be presented, one with density-dependent
capture, and the other with constant capture, where situations will be demonstrated
and compared to predict a possible scenario in which capture is greater than the
growth of the species. In practical terms, a completely efficient capture method
is not yet known, however there are studies that aim to develop a drone capable
of capturing lionfish; The proposal is that this equipment will be able to capture
95% of lionfish in each delimited area, having the ability to distinguish lionfish
from other species that may be present in the same location. Next, another study
will be presented that describes the growth dynamics of the species considering
the introduction of a variety of lionfish with YY chromosomes, called supermales,
resulting from modified lionfish with inverted sex containing two Y chromosomes,
with the objective interfering with the reproductive process of the species Pterois
volitans. Scenarios obtained by numerical simulations will illustrate the dynamics
of the models presented.

Abstract: We present a mathematical model for flexible structures with arbitrary geome-
tries in three-dimensional space, governed by beam theory that accounts for bending,

shear, and torsion, within the framework of small displacements and strains. We be-
gin by revisiting the classical theory of straight beams, founded on the Euler–Bernoulli

and Timoshenko models, and derive the governing equations for deformation under

distributed loading. These concepts are then extended to spatially curved beams, re-
sulting in the derivation of constitutive and equilibrium equations that form a system

of ordinary differential equations. To solve this problem, an abstract variational formu-
lation founded on the Hellinger–Reissner principle is adopted, which enables general-
ized displacements and internal forces to be treated as independent variables. In this

context, the displacement and internal force fields are approximated by interpolation

functions of the same polynomial degree, continuous for displacements and discon-
tinuous for internal forces, thereby allowing greater flexibility in accurately capturing

their internal variations. To guarantee the numerical stability of the approximations,
least-squares residual terms are directly incorporated into the equilibrium equations
at the element level, which prevents locking phenomena in the solution. Numerical
results are presented to demonstrate the potential of the formulation.

Abstract: This study aims to estimate the social impact of the multiplier effect resulting
from the first edition of the Specialization Course in Financial Education (CEEF),
developed at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), targeted at teachers from
the state public school system, on the academic performance of students in Paraíba
in the assessments applied by the National High School Exam (ENEM). The analysis,
wich ocurred between 2017 and 2019, employs a methodology that combines
the Differences-in-Differences (DiD) model with fixed effects and quantile regression,
in order to estimate the effects of teacher training on students’ standardized scores
across the four areas of evaluation, in addition to their performance on the writing
section. The estimates indicate that teachers participating in the CEEF had
a positive and statistically significant impact on their students’ academic performance,
particularly in the areas of Mathematics and Human Sciences. Conversely,
no relevant effects were observed in the other areas. The findings suggest that the
inclusion of financial education topics in the school curriculum has the potential not
only to enhance students’ financial literacy but also to foster the development of
interdisciplinary competencies that are fundamental to academic achievement.
