Religare entre a ascenção e queda do Imperio Romano

Abstract

We analyze the meanings of the word religare in the historical context between the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, as well as investigate a possible connection of this religious phenomenon with part of the religious culture of ancient India and ancient Egypt, through bibliographical consultation in books, scientific articles and other publications available in this respect. We introduce the subject by reflecting on the term religion and its importance to our lives. Next we explore the history of Rome from the monarchy to the empire and biography of some important thinkers of the time to understand the emergence of terms that would explain the religious phenomenon of these times. We present the etymological relations between the terms "religare", "religio" and "religere" and the word religion, according to the view of several authors. Finally, we relate the analysis and religious significance of the term religare from the Roman period to aspects of the sacred part of the religious culture of ancient India, in the Upanisads and Yoga and also ancient Egypt. We conclude that there are connections between the concept of religare both in Christianity and in these two traditions studied (Egyptian and Indian), and that such connections can still be developed and deepened through historical research, however, in our work the intention was only to show that they exist and are important.
