Atuação do(a) bibliotecário(a) como agente/gestor(a) cultural no evento Agosto das Letras realizado na cidade de João-Jessoa-PB

Abstract

The present work consists of discussing the role of the librarian as cultural manager in the August of Letters event, which is held in the State of Paraíba as part of a cultural policy of the state government. It aims to evaluate the cultural actions that are part of this event and the contribution of the Librarian as cultural manager in the society of Paraíba, mainly in the incentive to the reading, opportunizing the cultural development of the society and the visibility of the Library that is inserted in this cultural space. Methodologically, the research is exploratory-descriptive and qualitative approach, using the techniques of bibliographic research, documentary research and interview to achieve its purpose. The study concludes that the role of this professional is of fundamental importance for this event to happen, despite the great challenges that need to be faced, for example, to finish the undergraduate Librarianship course unprepared to perform such function. It is possible to verify also that the cultural actions carried out in the event promote numerous benefits for society, mainly so that people acquire the taste for reading through the different types of language and communication that are transferred in each action of the respective event.
