dc.description.abstractIn this case study, it will be presented the social work of the healer Lucia, which also exercises the functions of fortune teller working with the Gypsy Deck, in all the area of the Vale do Mamanguape. We will discourse how she survives the prejudice of her family, since she belongs to a fundamentalist Cristian family and is the only one in the family that exercises this function, besides her laborious task, that she considers her purpose in life. Lucia is a white woman with clear eyes and is self-taught, everything that she knows about healing and fortune telling she learned herself. Financial needs made her open to drawn the cards for the people that searched her, and the responsibility about her knowledge on prayer did not allow her to excuse herself from healing through prayer. To show how alive is this practice, I reserved a chapter of the current work to describe the daily search that people make to Lucia to be blessed or to have the cards read to them. However, our focus was to present her practice or craft, as we choose to call it, that Lucia has been performing for over 20 years. The theoretical and methodological perspective of this paper is the ethnographic, in the field of Sciences of Religion, particularly in the subarea of Empiric Sciences of Religion.pt_BR

dc.description.resumoNesse estudo de caso, apresentarei o trabalho social da benzedeira Lucia, que também exerce a função de cartomante trabalhando com o Baralho Cigano, abrangendo todo o Vale do Mamanguape. Discorrerei como ela sobrevive ao preconceito de seus familiares, devido ao fato de pertencer a uma família cristã fundamentalista e ser a única da família a exercer esta função, além de sua tarefa laboriosa, que para ela é sua missão de vida. Lucia é uma mulher branca de olhos claros e é autodidata, ou seja, tudo que sabe sobre benzeção e cartomancia aprendeu sozinha. A necessidade financeira a fez começar a abrir cartas para as pessoas que a procuravam, e a responsabilidade do seu conhecimento sobre rezas não a deixou se eximir da prática da cura através da benzeção. Para demonstrar o quanto esta prática é viva, reservei um capítulo do presente trabalho para descrever a busca diária que fazem à casa de Lucia diversas pessoas, para que ela as possa benzer, e da procura que existe para que abra as cartas. Porém o nosso foco foi apresentar sua prática, ou ofício, como escolhemos chamar, das atividades que a Lucia desempenha há mais de vinte anos. A perspectiva teórico-metodológica que orientou este trabalho é a etnográfica, no âmbito das Ciências das Religiões, particularmente da subárea Ciências Empíricas da Religião.pt_BR
