FACES DO RACISMO NO ROMANCE PONCIÁ VICÊNCIO, DE CONCEIÇÃO EVARISTO

Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyse the novel Ponciá Vicêncio, of Conceição Evaristo, in the intention of understanding different demonstrations of the racism in the narrative, specially, around the protagonist Ponciá Vicêncio. In the course of the analysis, we demonstrate what the violence to which the protagonist of the work is subdued reveals it as for inherited inheritance of the slavery it was and, in fact, one still does presently in the Brazilian society, moderating the right to the dignity of black women and breaking the premise of the notorious myth of the Racial Democracy. Talking to the work the reader will understand that the inherited values of the proslavery period substantiated negative values on the black man that settled in our society and produced a culture derogatory about the black woman represented in this narrative. Like inquiry methodology, there happened a qualitative bibliographical study of Evaristo's work (2003), based for other recent studies that discuss the theme of the racism as those of Albuquerque and Son (2006), Davis (2016), Queiroz and Queluz (2016) among others used in the theoretical discussion. The results of the inquiry led us to end what the racism suffered by the character Ponciá Vicêncio constitutes like a great violence, that as well as in the fiction, it is still present fact the daily life of women and black men the Brazilian society.
