dc.description.abstract	The State, through its official speeches, has vehemently defended the so-called "war on drugs" and imprisonment as its main strategy in the fight against crime. Regarding female imprisonment, one can observe the increase of 625% in the number of women prisoners in the last sixteen years. The Ministry of Justice shows that 62% of these women are responding to drug-related crimes. The scientific literature has pointed out that, in addition to the influence of partners, siblings or children, the frequent reasons for involvement in the illegal drug trade are the difficulties of supporting children and the barriers to entry into the labor market. The general objective of this study is to analyze, from the perspective of imprisoned women, the insertion and female participation in drug trafficking. For that, semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten women sentenced for crimes related to drug trafficking and arrested in the city of João Pessoa. As a data analysis strategy, nine categories were created that were explored from the theoretical frameworks of Critical and Feminist Criminology. As main results, was found that the interviewees, just like the incarcerated women in Brazil are young, black and with little schooling. Their lives are marked by low incomes, low schooling and job opportunities restricted to precarious activities, as they point to the process of feminization of poverty. It was also observed that gender issues also directly cross drug trafficking, since in this activity women occupy the lowest positions. Such women are viewed as subaltern and receive unequal treatment of their peers in function of the machismo present also in these activities. It was found that the entry or non-entry of women into drug trafficking is mostly related to a male figure, and it was evident that half of those interviewed did not even act in the illegal drug trade structure. Still, it has been noticed that in the situation of imprisonment being a woman is a factor that intensifies the sentence imposed. It is concluded that the "war on drugs" can be considered a fallacy, since it does not comply with what it is formally proposed, and is therefore a pretext that offers legitimacy to the mass incarceration of women.	pt_BR

dc.description.resumo	O Estado, por meio de seus discursos oficiais, tem defendido veementemente a chamada “guerra às drogas” e o encarceramento como estratégia principal no combate à criminalidade. No tocante ao aprisionamento feminino, pode-se observar o aumento de 656% no número de mulheres presas nos últimos dezesseis anos. O Ministério da Justiça demonstra que 62% destas mulheres estão respondendo a crimes relacionados ao tráfico de drogas. A literatura científica tem apontado que, além da influência de companheiros, irmãos ou filhos, as frequentes razões para o envolvimento com o comércio de drogas ilegais são as dificuldades de sustentar os filhos e as barreiras para inserção no mercado de trabalho lícito. O objetivo geral deste estudo é analisar, sob a ótica de mulheres encarceradas, a inserção e atuação feminina no tráfico de drogas. Para tanto, foram realizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas com dez mulheres sentenciadas por crimes relacionados ao tráfico de drogas e presas na cidade de João Pessoa. Como estratégia de análise de dados, criou-se nove categorias que foram exploradas a partir dos referenciais teóricos das Criminologias Crítica e Feminista. Como principais resultados, encontrou-se que as entrevistadas, assim como a mulher encarcerada no Brasil, são jovens, negras e com pouca escolaridade. Suas vidas são marcadas por baixos rendimentos, pouca escolarização e oportunidades de trabalho restritas a atividades precarizadas, dado que aponta para o processo de feminização da pobreza. Observou-se, ainda, que as questões de gênero também atravessam diretamente o tráfico de drogas, visto que nesta atividade as mulheres ocupam as posições mais inferiores. Tais mulheres são vistas como subalternas e recebem tratamento desigual de seus pares em função do machismo presente também nestas atividades. Encontrou-se que o ingresso ou não ingresso de mulheres no tráfico de drogas está majoritariamente relacionado a uma figura masculina, além de que ficou evidente que metade das entrevistadas sequer atuou na estrutura do comércio de drogas ilegais. Ainda, percebeu-se que na situação de aprisionamento ser mulher é um fator que intensifica a pena imposta. Conclui-se que a “guerra às drogas” pode ser considerada uma falácia, visto que não cumpre o que formalmente se propõe, sendo, portanto, um pretexto que oferece legitimidade ao encarceramento em massa de mulheres.	pt_BR
