A representação da informação do arquivo fotográfico do jornal A União: proposta de descrição

Abstract

The photographic document, when treated in the archival parameters, becomes an important source of research, especially when it comes to personal and institutional collections of public interest. The fascination is extended by the photographs dating from the beginning to the middle of the twentieth century because of their rarity. The costs in obtaining the technology of capture of images were very high and, therefore, difficult to obtain them. In this direction, the research was developed in A União, a state-owned newspaper in Brazil that has been in existence for 125 years, with a photographic collection of approximately 6,000 (six thousand) printed photographs. With the intention of providing quick and safe access to this kind of documentation, the general objective of this investigation was to prepare a file with descriptive fields in the context of the representation of the information for the photographs, having as scope the collection of said news- paper. Thereby, it was questioned: what elements, in the light of the information representation, are necessary for the preparation of a description sheet for the photographic archive of the newspaper A União? From the methodological point of view, the research is part of a case study, carried out in a specific place. It is also of a descriptive character, since it spans the institution and its archive; its exploratory character is in the attribution of representative associative parameters between term and document objectively. Considering all these aspects, the approach on the subject was qualitative, attributing meaning to the representational aspects that surround it. As for data collection, interviews with newspaper employees were used, direct observation and registration of requests made by users during the period of the internship and orientation between 2015 and 2016. The documentary analysis was fundamental for the development of the description sheet, resulting in the elaboration of 16 representative fields, having as parameter the Brazilian Standard of Archival Description (NOBRADE). This contribution favors users in the daily life of the institution, streamlining and responding to their information demands; and also the Archivology, Librarianship and Information Science in order to present the inherent specificities to the representation of the imagery information.
