Análise da idade de desempenho linguístico x idade cronológica de bebês com Síndrome de Down

Abstract

Purpose: To analyze the linguistic development of infants with Down Syndrome, through the investigation of the age of performance versus chronological age. Methods: A quantitative evaluation of the auditory (AE), auditory receptive (RA) and visual (V) functions will be performed through the Early Language Milestone Scale scale with eighteen babies with Down's Syndrome. Afterwards, the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventory: First Words and Gestures will be used to obtain information about the linguistic development of the baby from the family perspective. Results: Through ELM, eighteen babies present performance below the chronological age in the AE function; thirteen in the AR function; ten in the V function. Five and eight babies presented chronological age equal to the AR and V function scores, respectively. It was observed that the parents present a perspective of the children's linguistic performance that was not found in their totality in the speech and hearing assessment.Conclusion: It was verified the importance of speech-language pathology evaluation in people with DS with a focus on the age of performance, due to the need to know the performance level of infants and children to be submitted to intervention and speech therapy, so that treatment and stimulation are appropriate to their abilities.
