Trajetória do pix: análise dos mecanismos causais de desenvolvimento

Abstract

This paper sought to illustrate steps and obstacles faced during the development of the digital infrastructure through which Pix, a Brazilian instant payment method, operates, as well as applying the theory of causal mechanisms of development, reinforcing the importance of these as responsible for promo ting and directing the evolution of information infrastructures. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative exploratory analysis was carried out with the topic of its case study being the design trajectory of the mentioned payment method, chosen due to its relevance in the Brazilian financial system. Then, the events described in the case study were classified into the three categories of causal mechanisms: Architectural, institutional and functional. With this, it was explained how deci sive these mechanisms were for the conception and success of Pix, as well as to highlight the importance of more studies aimed at understanding the develop ment of information infrastructure
