Abstract

This paper analyzes the relationship between artificial intelligence and literature, focusing on the ability of ChatGPT-3.5 to emulate the style of renowned authors. The study focuses on the styles of Augusto dos Anjos and Ariano Suassuna, aiming to assess the quality of texts generated by AI compared to the original works of these writers. The research is divided into three main parts: the first discusses the historical evolution of artificial intelligence, particularly in relation to text generation; the second addresses the stylistic characteristics of the two chosen authors; and the third details the experimental process of literary emulation through ChatGPT-3.5, including the analysis of the results. In the case of Augusto dos Anjos, ChatGPT-3.5 demonstrated some ability to capture key elements of his poetry, such as deep pessimism, strict use of poetic form, and the fusion of science and poetry, a hallmark of the author. The model successfully mimicked the scientific language used by Augusto, incorporating terms related to biology and decomposition, which are recurring themes in his work. However, the philosophical depth and emotional complexity of the original texts have not been fully replicated by the AI. Regarding Ariano Suassuna, the texts generated by ChatGPT-3.5 showed more limitations. Central elements of Suassuna’s work, such as regionalism, northeastern humor, and social criticism, were not captured as accurately. The difficulty in reproducing Suassuna’s light and ironic tone, as well as the use of folklore and popular culture, highlighted the challenges of emulating writers who draw on very specific cultural and social references. In addition to the stylistic analysis, the study addresses the ethical implications of using AI in literary creation. Issues such as authorship, originality, and the impact of artificial intelligence on creative production are explored, questioning to what extent AI can or should participate in the artistic process. It concludes that, although AI is capable of reproducing certain formal aspects of literature, it is still far from achieving the subjective depth and emotional complexity necessary to faithfully replicate human creativity.
