ChatGPT: desafios para o fazer bibliotecário

Abstract

Digital Information and Communication Technologies (TDICs) have exerted a profound influence on the librarian profession, demanding constant adaptation from these professionals. The advent of DICTs brought significant changes to the collection, evaluation and management of information. In this context, ChatGPT, a tool that is capable of understanding, answering questions, providing information and performing certain tasks efficiently based on texts, developed by the company OpenAI, presents itself as a technological evolution capable of assisting in various functions , from preparing abstracts to cataloging and classifying the collection. However, it is important to highlight the limitations of the tool, such as the need to validate the information generated and the restriction on the database, which only has information up to the year 2021. The guiding question of this research is to try to understand how Artificial Intelligence, specifically through the ChatGPT tool, can contribute to librarianship. The general objective of the research is to investigate the potential contributions of Artificial Intelligence, specifically through the ChatGPT tool in the area of Librarianship. The study emphasizes the importance of the librarian in validating information and efficient management of the library, and follows a qualitative and exploratory methodological approach. It is concluded that ChatGPT can be a valuable tool to assist librarians, especially in libraries with limited budgets and a shortage of professionals, acting as a support and not as a substitute for the professional.
