dc.description.abstract	The species Murraya exotica L., popularly known as orange jasmine is very useful in the urban landscape, rural, in the ornamentation and also as a medicinal porpuse. Thus the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sowing position and depth on the emergence and early growth of M. exotica seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with a completely randomized design and treatments distributed in a factorial of 3 x 5, constituting of three seeding positions (HC, HL and HB) and six depths (0, 1, 2, 3 4 and 5 cm) in four replications of 25 seeds. In evaluating the effect of treatment was determined the water content, emergency speed index, percentage and emergence first count, as well as the length and dry weight of roots and shoots of normal seedlings Thes seeds Murraya exotica should be sown with the hilum facing side (HL) or down (HB) at a depth of 1.22 cm.	pt_BR

dc.description.resumo	A espécie Murraya exotica L., popularmente conhecida como jasmim laranja tem grande utilidade no paisagismo urbano, rural, ornamentação e como planta medicinal. Dessa forma o objetivo neste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da posição e profundidade de semeadura na emergência e crescimento inicial de plântulas de M. exotica. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação com o delineamento experimental inteiramente ao acaso e os tratamentos distribuídos em esquema fatorial 3 x 5, sendo três posições de semeadura (HC, HL e HB) e seis profundidades (0, 1, 2 ,3 4, e 5 cm), em quatro repetições de 25 sementes. Para avaliação do efeito dos tratamentos determinou-se o teor de água, índice de velocidade de emergência, porcentagem e primeira contagem de emergência, bem como o comprimento e massa seca das raízes e parte aérea das plântulas normais. As sementes de Murraya exotica devem ser semeadas com o hilo voltado para o lado (HL) ou para baixo (HB) na profundidade de 1,22 cm.	pt_BR
