The medicines are technically pharmaceuticals obtained or prepared with prophylactic, curative, palliative purpose or for diagnostic purposes. After the expiry of validity of expired medication s should be unused and disposed of properly to avoid problems related to medications such as intoxication, use needlessly or without indication, lack of effectiveness, adverse reactions and environment pollution. ANVISA since the creation of the Brazilian solid waste Policy in 2010 has been discussing and evaluating the form of implementation of reverse logistics in the production chain of medicines. This work aims to make an updated bibliographical review of the approaches that have been used in Brazil, wi th emphasis on data collected by some authors on the level of information of the population about the subject, ANVISA's discussion about reverse logistics deployment of residues of medicines and the laws in some States and municipalities, aiming at actions that meet the current demand management and environmental education. According to the majority of the population have the habit of discarding the medicines incorrectly and in inappropriate locations, although some demonstrate knowledge in relation to the consequences of improper disposal, perhaps because there is no formal information about the subject on the part of competent bodies regarding the correct disposal of expired medicines. It is concluded that despite the various existing regulations on the di sposal of medicines in Brazil, we can realize that the residues of medicines are not treated effectively, becoming available to humans through water, soil and air and thus causing environmental and public health impacts.pt_BR
