Abstract: The Brazilian northeastern region is characterized by the strong influence of environmental factors on agriculture, where the main examples are the erratic rainfall and high temperature. Nevertheless, oil crops are plants traditionally grown in this region. Biological invasion is a phenomenon that causes changes in the dynamics of natural ecosystems invaded by the establishment of exotic plants. The mesquite (Prosopis juliflora (SW) DC.) is an invasive plant that causes changes in the composition of the Caatinga (Brazilian stepic savanna). The objective was to measure the changes caused by the addition of mesquite leaf residues on the germination and development of oilseed plants: cotton, peanut and sesame. The experiments were conducted in the laboratory and greenhouse. Laboratory were used BOD chambers, where was taken as substrate germitest paper and treatments with different concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) of the aqueous extract of P. juliflora. The extract was drawn after immersion 100g of powdered dry leaves in 1000 ml of distilled water for a period of 24 hours. The resulting product of this procedure was an aqueous extract denominated as 100% concentration, from that dilutions were made to obtain the other diluted concentrations. These experiments lasted 7 days and the parameters evaluated were germination, speed of germination index, length of root and shoot. The experiments in a greenhouse used as substrate subsoil stays in trays. Assessments were made at 30 days, based on germination, root and shoot length, roots and shoots dry weight. The results are given in sesame (Sesamum indicum) a low initial development occurs when adding of mesquite residues. While cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) shows the gains its initial development, with the application of products mesquite Keywords:
