Abstract: The culture of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) is a vegetable fruit annual shrub with upright stems and semilenhoso, being born in warm regions of Africa. In Brazil, there are excellent climatic conditions for its cultivation, especially in the Northeast and Southeast, which is a popular culture, especially small farmers. Okra is grown mainly by small and medium producers, having family farming important role in the production of this vegetable. The study was conducted at the Federal University of Paraíba, Areia-PB, in the period from November 2011 to January 2012, with the object of to evaluate the behavior of okra fertilized with N and bovine manure. The experimental design was randomized blocks with three replications, with treatments arranged in a factorial arrangement (6 x 2), with factors doses of N (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 kg ha-1) and bovine manure (20 t ha-1 and absence). Were evaluated the number of fruits plant-1, fruit yield (t ha-1), average length (cm) and average fruit weight (g). The maximum number of fruits plant-1 were 29 and 26 fruits in the estimated doses of 178.5 and 200 kg N ha-1 respectively, in the presence and absence of bovine manure. The doses of 183 and 197.7 kg N ha-1 were responsible for maximum fruit yield of 43.2 and 41.4 t ha-1 in the presence and absence of bovine manure, respectively. The use of manure and nitrogen fertilization did not influence the average length of fruit and only the application of manure positively affected mean fruit mass, obtaining an average of 24.8 and 23.3 g, in which the dose of 250 kg ha-1 of ammonium sulfate in the presence of manure is responsible for producing the highest average fruit weight. The results allowed concluding that the interaction between N and bovine manure were effective to increase the productive characteristics of okra.
