| Abstract: | Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the oldest species cultivated by man, belonging to the family Pedaliaceae. It is the ninth most widely grown oilseed in the world. World production is estimated at 3,16 million tons, with a productivity of 481,40 kg / ha. Its cultivation has great economic potential, due to the diverse forms of exploitation, whether domestically and externally. One of the barriers faced by farmers in Northeast Brazil is among other factors, the low quality of seeds acquired, which is detrimental to farmers and to the national economy. Sesame has been little studied on physiological quality. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different doses of silicon on the germination of sesame seeds. The experiment was conducted in Areia - PB in LAS / UFPB. Sesame seeds BRS Seda were treated (0 mL, 0,3 mL, 0,55 mL, 1,05 mL, 1,55 mL) with the product Sifol ® and seeded. The variables analyzed were germination, first count, rate of germination, seedling length and seedling dry. The experiment was performed in CRD with five treatments and five replications. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and adjusted by regression equations using the SAS statistical program. Occurred linear fit to the variable length of seedlings and quadratic for germination and germination speed index. Studies on the physiological quality and use of silicon in the culture of sesame are scarce thus, a new search for proof of the results obtained here. Key |
