Título: Frugivoria e dispersão de sementes por Chiroxiphia pareola (pipridae) em um brejo de altitude, nordeste do Brasil
Autor(es): Alves, Adaelma dos Santos
Abstract: Seed dispersal is an important stage in the reproductive cycle of most plants because avoid competition and predators attacks next the mother plant. The frugivorous birds are considered seed dispersor efficients because the seed amount and transported distance. Manakins (Pipridae) are good exemples of seed dispersors birds. We evaluated the relationship between Chiroxiphia pareola distribution and frugivorous and seed dipersial activities in a Forest fragment, “Brejo de Altitude” from northeast Brazil. Observations and catches with mist nets were done monthly, between october 2010 and september 2011, at grid of 600m x 600m. Bird droppings and regurgitations were collected and the plant species from seed found were identified. From C. pareola diet were sampled nine plant species, distributed in four families and five genus. Chiroxiphia pareola shows a random distribution on the sampled area. Although many plant species, with consumed fruits by bird specie, not fully occur throughout the study area, the temporal alternation of fruits provided resources in every area. Consequently, it can be seen that there is a relationship between the occurrence of C. pareola and dispersal activity of various plant species consumed.
