Eros e o engenheiro: presença do lirismo em João Cabral de Melo Neto

Abstract

João Cabral de Melo Neto, author who will be addressed in this work, is considered by many scholars as unclassifiable, considering that his works present widespread characteristics of diverse literary schools. However, it is more common to find his name appearing among the authors of the third phase of the Modernism in Brazil, the so-called “Generation of 45”, although this approximation is exclusively due to chronological criteria. To the poet of the Capibaribe’s River are attributed several nicknames, among them the "poet of the less" and "anti-lyric", however we will try to approach the presence of the lyricism in some of his poems, emphasizing some sub-themes which are in the lyrical genre, as the woman, the eroticism and the state of the individual soul. Nevertheless, the way that we will try to approach the lyricism seeks to meet, first, the most general view about the genre and, later, to demonstrate that the lyricism found in the work of the author from Pernambuco differs from the great majority of authors, being something more directed to the elaboration of the “lyrical self” as a fictitious being, typical to the convention of the lyrical genre.
