CONHECIMENTO TRADICIONAL E USOS DE Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir. (JUREMA PRETA) NO SEMIÁRIDO DA PARAÍBA, NORDESTE, BRASIL

Abstract

The present study recorded information on the knowledge and use of Mimosa tenuiflora (Willd.) Poir., Rural communities Pau D’Arco, Barroquinha and Lowland Alegre, belonging to municipalities Itaporanga - PB, Lagoa - PB and São Mamede - PB, respectively, where semi-structured interviews were conducted with all heads of families (men / women) in each community. In interviews focused on identifying and analyzing the current uses categories and potential uses to obtain more precise information on the relationship of respondents with M. tenuiflora. The uses were divided into eight categories. In the community of Pau D’Arco, 43 citations were identified; Barroquinha In community, we identified 181 citations; And the community of Lowland Alegre, 158 citations were identified. The separation of the categories current use and potential use is important because it expresses the real conservation status of the species, which is threatened by various applications intended. Considering all the quotes attributed to use of M. tenuiflora were obtained in all three communities, the largest numbers of citations of current uses for fuel and construction categories, and these were higher in all communities surveyed. Therefore, considering the results obtained in this study, is urgent in academia incorporating research that focus on the use of M. tenuiflora, and they should get their lines epistemological act of valuing ideological studies that recover traditional knowledge about the Caatinga, as a way to find the largest possible number of utility properties for the species through data, make plans for sustainable use of each local situation.
