Violência contra mulheres e informação: perfil das mulheres atendidas no Centro de Referência da Mulher Ednalva Bezerra-2007.

Abstract

Violence against women is a widespread social phenomenon that affects women around the world, regardless of race, social class, education. This violence is often naturalized, because in society sexist culture prevails, we emphasize that such violence is not good to the entire society, it generates inequality and gender prejudice. We believe that information is an instrument of social transformation,when treated as a process, is a two-way road where individuals informed transform the medium to the time they are processed, reciprocally and simultaneously. This research focuses on violence against women and information about it on the Reference Center for Women "Ednalva Bezerra" (CRMEB), in Joao Pessoa, Paraiba, Brazil. In 2007, we interviewed a hundred and twelve women in the CRMEB who suffered violence (ex) partner, (ex) husband or (ex) boyfriend. We used a quantitative age, marital status, education, income, ethnic and racial characteristics and typesof violence and the relationship with the author of violence,. Data indicate that s / he has information vital importance in organization, systematization and dissemination of informationon units that work with violence against women, contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of violence and the strengthening of public policies on prevention, publicity and ensuring the human rights of women.
