Abstract

The food, financial, energy and environmental crises stimulated the global acquisition of land. These four crises are impacted in a number of ways in this process, the food crisis by expanding the demand for food and ensuring food sovereignty of the countries, the financial crisis by stimulating the search for safer investment speculative than financial markets, taking investment funds to acquire portions of land for this purpose, the energy crisis by developing a greater demand for biofuels and thus generating the need for more land for the production of crops for their development and the environmental crisis, which leads companies to acquire land, or support forest preservation investments with the objective of reducing their carbon emission indices. Considering these events, this monograph analyzes the impact of these four crises to understand how they stimulated the global acquisition of land, also analyzes how the phenomenon of the global land acquisition (Land Grabbing) occurs from its characteristics and consequences and are presented evidence of the involvement of crises in acquisitions. This work is important to understand how these crises in their various dimensions have ultimately stimulated this process that directly affects the lives of millions of people, especially in developing countries in relation to social issues such as food security.
