A Festa de Santos Reis na cidade de Itapororoca - PB

Abstract

This work presents several dimensions that surround the concept of party, dimensions related to religiosity and sociability of the Festa de Santos Reis of the city of Itapororoca. We understand celebration as a manifestation that makes a significant contribution to the union of Brazilian cultural diversity and is important for the place and for the people who live it. The reflections undertaken in this research is that this party was born around the years of 1950 and until the present day brings many transformations and meanings to those who experience it. The general objective of this study was to analyze the Feast of Saints Kings of the city of Itapororoca, identifying and understanding the historical aspects that marked its trajectory. To do so, we analyze the religious rituals of the party and describe the leisure and sociability relationships that come from this cultural manifestation that seems so important to the city, either through the benefits it brings to the population such as: entertainment, income and socialization; Or of some harms such as: violence, garbage, etc. This work is based on a qualitative research based on participant observation and interviews. In view of the results, it is concluded that during the years of 1960 to 2017, the Kings' Festival held in the city of Itapororoca underwent numerous transformations related to change of place, presentations, the growth of public, etc. From a small manifestation in praise of the Three Holy Kings, this feast became a reference among other festivals in the region and today attracts thousands of people from different regions and composes multiple meanings for the individuals who experience it.
