| Título: | The Military Police, according to the Federal Constitution, is considered an auxiliary force and reserve of the Army, with the function of ostensible police and preservation of public order. Compliance with the constitutional duty to maintain public order requires military police officers to have a good level of physical fitness and good health. The objective of the present study is to analyze the level of physical activity and quality of life of the military police students, of the Training Course of Soldiers of the Military Police of Paraíba. The research is descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 171 (one hundred and seventy-one) military police students of both sexes, aged 26±3,5, duly enrolled in the Training Course for Soldiers, in operation at the Education Center of the Military Police of Paraíba. The variables investigated were the level of physical activity and the level of quality of life, being measured, respectively, by the following instruments: IPAQ - Short version, and WHOQOL-BREF. The data analysis was of the descriptive type, through measures of central tendency, and distribution of absolute and relative frequencies. Regarding the level of physical activity none of the investigated was classified as sedentary. 28% were classified as irregularly active, 59.1% as active, and 12.9% as very active. As for the general perception of quality of life, a regular perception was observed in all dimensions: Psychological (3.8±0,5), and Social Relations (3,8±0,7), Physics (3,6± 0,6), and Environment (3,1±0,5). It was found that the majority of participants, regarding the level of physical activity were classified as active. In relation to the evaluation of the general quality of life, it was found that in average terms all domains presented values that indicate that the soldiers have a regular perception of this variable. |

| Resumo: | Introdução: Diabetes tipo 2 é uma doença multifatorial, de modo que estilo de vida é determinante no tratamento e no controle da doença. Objetivo: Caracterizar demograficamente e fisiologicamente um grupo de diabéticos, em relação ao nível social, ingestão alimentar e atividade físicas cotidianas. Aspectos metodológicos: A pesquisa é do tipo transversal, descritiva com abordagem quantitativa. Foram avaliados 24 voluntários diabéticos tipo 2, de diferentes bairros da Capital João Pessoa-PB. Resultados: De acordo com os dados coletados no (IPAQ-VC), constatou-se que a maioria dos voluntários estavam sedentários, detinham relativamente baixo nível social, ingestão alimentar desregrada. Obtinham taxas mal controladas e capacidades físicas prejudicadas potencialmente pelo descontrole das variáveis observadas. Conclusão: Os diabéticos eram mal controlados, e ao mesmo tempo, tinham um estilo de vida característico da falta de hábitos de vida saudável, o que pode estar contribuindo para o desfecho do mal controle glicêmico percebido no estudo. |
| Abstract: | Introduction: Type 2 diabetes is a multifactorial disease, so lifestyle is crucial in the treatment and control of the disease. Objective: To characterize demographically and physiologically a group of diabetics, in relation to social level, food intake and daily physical activity. Methodological aspects: The research is cross-sectional, descriptive with quantitative approach. Twenty-four type 2 diabetic volunteers from different neighborhoods of the Capital João Pessoa-PB were evaluated. Results: According to the data collected in the IPAQ-VC, it was found that most volunteers were sedentary, had relatively low social level, unregulated food intake. They obtained poorly controlled rates and physical abilities potentially impaired by the lack of control of the observed variables. Conclusion: Diabetics were poorly controlled, and at the same time, had a characteristic lifestyle of lack of healthy lifestyle, which may be contributing to the outcome of poor glycemic control perceived in the study. |
