O(a) aluno(a) e seu (des)interesse nas aulas de Química: um olhar para o ensino médio.

Abstract

The present study was based on my experiences lived inside the classroom during the Supervised Internship and the Pedagogical Residency Program, which allowed my insertion in the scholar environment and made it possible to see cases of discouragement, inattention, and disinterest in the Chemistry subject. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the perception of students about their interest or not in Chemistry teaching. The research was categorized as qualitative and quantitative; exploratory regarding the study objective and participative according to the procedure of data acquisition. The research was carried out in a State School located in the urban area of the municipality of Remígio - PB and had 192 students, from 6 high school classes, with 63 students from the 1st year, 55 from the 2nd year and 74 from the 3rd year of high school. To carry out the research, we used three instruments to produce data: observation, using a questionnaire with the Likert scale and the semi-structured interview and to analyze the data a triangulation was used. Due to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) we used the multiplatform app WhatsApp to do the interviews. The experiences lived in the classroom, during the observation period, could elucidate that students express their interest in the subject, through the way they behave in classes, the relationship with the teacher, snubbing the content being exposed or chatting and even using the cell phone. Through the questionnaire it was identified that most students are interested in the discipline of Chemistry, although the level of interest is considered low. However, according to the interview, most of the students mentioned to not like the Chemistry subject, for reasons such as: not liking calculations, not understanding the contents, or simply because they do not identify themselves. It appears that the majority of students study Chemistry only to be approved at the end of the school year or to finish high school. The interview proved to be effective as an instrument of dialogue and approximation with the students, and it can be used, by the teacher, to understand the reasons that cause the lack of interest in the subject by the students. It was also observed that the students see this dialogue as an important research and understanding resource, that it could be a way to bring the students closer to the content, reality and provide a moment of listening and criticism that should be highlighted during the classes and beyond that.
