Construção da identidade negra positiva na educação infantil: representações da cultura afro-brasileira no ambiente escolar

Abstract

The school is a space where diversity is present. In it wherever we go we find the different. Educational institutions should be the place where subjects can construct their identity positively, manifesting their culture without any discrimination, or the target of racism. The present work aimed to investigate how the identity of the black child is built in a unit of early childhood education. The adopted methodology was of qualitative nature, with the accomplishment of the field research, through the application of a questionnaire with professionals of the infantile education (two teachers, manager and psychologist) and observation of the daily school of the School of Basic Education, located in the city João Pessoa-PB. Among the results we highlight that even though the school claiming to be against racism, it was possible to perceive that discrimination was presented in a non-verbal manner. As ways of coping, educators should promote situations in which the child positively recognizes their particularities, and knows how to live with the existing diversity in the school environment / in society. At the end of this work, we highlight that the training of professionals must be mandatory and promote more specific acquisition on contents such as issues related to African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture.
