Estudantes de graduação em canto lírico na UFPB: experiências compartilhadas com o canto popular

Abstract

The performance of the lyrical singer on the popular singing has become more frequent each day. Analyzing this situation, the main objective of this research is to understand what are the reasons that lead the graduation students in lyrical singing to perform on popular singing, and as the specific objectives are to investigate the main reasons that lead the lyrical singers to popular singing; to analyze the adaptations performed by the lyrical singing students while teaching popular singing; to discover the implications of these two practices on the development of the singer; to identify and analyze how the lyrical singer organizes the knowledge from the lyrical singing over the popular singing. The research presents results of interviews accomplished with five graduation students in lyrical singing in the University of Paraíba (UFPB) that also perform actively on the popular singing, interpretatively or pedagogically. The research was qualitative and, as data collect, semi-structured interviews were performed. The data analyzes showed that one of the main reason related to why the lyrical singers lead to perform on popular singing is the shortage of opportunities to work with lyrical singing, interpretatively or pedagogically. Data also showed some reports about the feeling of belonging to popular singing since it was their way in to the singing activities, and the idea that lyrical singing offers an in-depth technical base so they can, then, work with popular singing.
