A desigualdade de gênero na matemática: aspectos históricos e atuais

Abstract

In this paper, we discuss gender inequality in mathematics, as over time many women have dedicated themselves to the study of this science. These women were not allowed, let alone encouraged, to study and participate in the construction of this science, and yet they actively participated. But, historically speaking, these women's names are not mentioned or recognized in the way they should be. With this in mind, we are talking about women who were part of the construction of the history of mathematics and who left great contributions. We also talk about Brazilian mathematicians who contributed to mathematics in Brazil. Then, we present the research carried out from the official websites of the Federal Universities of Brazil in faceto-face mathematics courses, analyzing the number of teachers in these courses. Finally, we talk about the relationship between mathematical awards and women and about Maryam Mirzakhani, the first and only woman to receive the Fields Medal. We also talk about initiatives that seek to bring girls closer to math. The study showed the challenges and prejudices suffered by women who proposed to study mathematics over time and that despite the active participation that women have, mathematics is still a predominantly male area.
