Luxação coxofemoral em Ara ararauna: relato de caso

Abstract

Brazil is one of the countries with the greatest avian diversity in the world, the Arara ararauna or popularly known as blue-and-gold macaw, has become one of the postcards of our country. With its beauty and singing, the macaw is one of the most sought after animals for illegal trade. These animals suffer a series of mistreatments when they fall into the hands of traffickers, from capture to transportation. In the attempt to escape, handling or transport, they end up developing orthopedic disorders, among them the most common are scapulohumeral and femorotibial dislocation, being the case of the animal in question the hip dislocation. Orthopedic radiography and neurological exams are performed due to the union of the animal's history and its clinical signs. The knowledge of this report, as well as its form of post-mortem diagnosis, serves as a study indicator for professionals in the field. It is worth mentioning that this report is the first case of hip dislocation in macaws in the state of Paraíba, Brazil.
