Palavras e imagens: análise do livro ilustrado infantil da minha janela

Abstract

This work sought to explore the theme that involves the illustrated book, showing how it is organized between words, images and graphic design. Therefore, to better demonstrate this, it was necessary to delimit the concept of illustrated book, and demonstrate its history and evolution, together with the history of children's literature, both in a general context and in a Brazilian context. Furthermore, we seek to define the concept of visual literacy, showing that society is increasingly finding itself as a society of image, justifying the need for visual literacy. From this perspective, the analysis of a illustrated book called “Da minha Janela” from Otávio Junior, highlighted how, in practice, the elements of the graphic design organize the book and have a direct connection with the production of meaning in the narrative. Therefore, the methodology used for this work is characterized as a bibliographical research, where we tried to make a search for books, articles and periodicals that spoke about the theme. In addition to using a bibliographic research methodology, it was chosen for this research to carry out an exploratory approach, in which we gathered everything that the bibliography makes available to approach the theme. It is worth noting that there are many definitions of illustrated book, however, for this work, we chose to use the definition that describes the illustrated book as being formed by two types of text where they interact with each other through the relationship of complementarity. In this, the organization of the elements needs to be specific for this relationship to happen. It is at this moment that the graphic design enters the scene, with the responsibility of being the agent that will organize the elements in the illustrated book. However, the graphic design is not just for organizing the elements of the book, during this research, we saw that the graphic design fits as part of the narrative, as it is a determining factor for the formation of meaning. Therefore, as a theoretical framework for this research, we used the contributions of Nikolajeva and Scott (2011), Van der Linden (2011), Colomer (2017), Abramovich (1989), Faria (2013), Lajolo and Zilberman (2007), Lourenço (2011), Mattos, Ribeiro and Vianna (2016), Ramos (2018), among others.
