EPISÓDIOS DE OPRESSÃO COTIDIANA NO ROMANCE O OLHO MAIS AZUL

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the literary work The Bluest Eye (1970), by the Afro-american writer Toni Morrison (1931-2019) in order to observe how the intersectionality of race, gender and class oppression affects the lives of some black female characters.The book tells the story of a variety of black characters that try to survive in a community where some of them have internalized the hegemonic patterns of whiteness. By internalizing these values, they experience a series of oppressions triggered by this acceptance. In this sense, this research seeks to understand in its specific objectives what led some of these characters, especially the protagonist, Pecola Breedlove, to see the blackness of their bodies as something derogatory, to the point of losing her mind. To achieve these goals, the connection between decolonial feminist thought (LUGONES, 2008); (CURIEL, 2014), black feminist thought (COLLINS, 2019), and literary criticism (CHRISTIAN, 1985) were used here to understand the intertwined functioning of these oppressions in the lives of these characters in order to reach the conclusion that the oppressions they suffer are a consequence of the coloniality of power and gender, and their consequences.
