| Resumo: | O Brasil é internacionalmente reconhecido pela sua distinção no campo das Doenças Tropicais Negligenciadas. Esse artigo objetiva apresentar atores e instituições notáveis da Medicina Tropical no Brasil, numa perspectiva histórica, enfatizando: a Escola Tropicalista Baiana de Medicina e os médicos que sucederam essa fase, contribuindo para a fundação e o desenvolvimento do campo e dados bibliométricos da produção recente, notabilizando pesquisadores e instituições atuantes no tempo presente. A metodologia é historiográfica-bibliométrica, realizando- se um tecer histórico a partir da literatura e de informações bibliométricas sobre instituições e pesquisadores brasileiros na Web of Science. Como principais resultados, apresentam-se pesquisadores e instituições do passado e do presente, constatando-se a proeminência do Brasil em âmbito internacional; e na atualidade, verifica-se a forte participação das mulheres e o avanço da multidisciplinaridade. Assim, conclui-se que a história da Medicina Tropical brasileira é um capítulo em construção e recebendo o devido investimento continuará a produzir frutíferos resultados. |
| Abstract: | Brazil is internationally recognized for its distinction in the field of Neglected Tropical Diseases. This article aims to present the notable actors and institutions of Tropical Medicine in Brazil, in a historical perspective, emphasizing: the Bahia Tropical School of Medicine and the doctors who succeeded this phase, contributing to the foundation and development of the field and bibliometric data recent production, making researchers and institutions active in the present time stand out. The methodology is historiographical-bibliometric, making a historical weave from the literature and bibliometric information about Brazilian institutions and researchers on Web of Science. As main results, researchers and institutions from the past and the present are presented, evidencing a prominence of Brazil in the international scope; and nowadays, it is verified a strong participation of women and the advance of multidisciplinarity. Thus, it is concluded that the history of Brazilian Tropical Medicine is a chapter under construction and receiving the proper investment, it will continue producing fruitful results. |
