PERCEPÇÕES ACERCA DA INTERVENÇÃO DO ASSISTENTE SOCIAL NOS CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS: UMA REVISÃO BIBLIOGRÁFICA

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of Brazilian Social Work in the field of Palliative Care, considering the technical-operational elements and knowledge production in the field. Additionally, it sought to discuss the main socio-historical aspects of the integration of Social Work into the socio-technical division of labor, reconstructing the trajectory of Social Work in public health. The study also examined the theoretical production of the profession and its professional practice concerning Palliative Care in Brazil, as well as analyzed the materials systematizing the current role of Social Work in this area. To achieve these objectives, a literature review was conducted, aiming to analyze the knowledge produced on the topic. Articles published in scientific journals indexed in databases such as the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Google Scholar, as well as Brazilian dissertations and theses indexed in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), were selected for review. The analysis covered the last ten years. The obtained results consistently highlight the themes of Social Work, Palliative Care, Health Policy, Pain, and Death. It is important to emphasize that, even though it is a recent theme in the field of Social Work, its production has been expanding. In this regard, it was possible to discuss the relevance of Social Work for the realization of social rights, ensuring that individuals facing life-threatening illnesses have the right to die with dignity.
