dc.description.abstractThis article is part of the line of history and literature, proposing to analyze the construction of the theocratic/totalitarian regime of the Republic of Gilead, from the testimony of the protagonist Offred who was forced to become a handmaiden (sexual slave), with reproductive function, in a country ravaged by civil war, with a low birth rate and undertaking a social reorganization and the depersonalization of women. We start from the analysis of the book O Conto da Aia (1985), by Margaret Atwood, referring to Achille Mbembe (2003), Michel Foucault (1976), bell hooks (2019) and others.pt_BR
