INVESTIGANDO A ESTRUTURA TEXTUAL GENÉRICA DE HISTÓRIAS INSPIRADORAS SOBRE MULHERES REFUGIADAS

Abstract

The exponential increase in internal conflicts, violence and persecution in some countries has generated in their populations the fear of insecurity and the scarcity of basic inputs for the survival of their citizens in their homeland. As a consequence, there has been a veritable exodus to countries that are not always willing to receive these refugees. This undergraduate final paper aims to analyze the texts of eight overcoming stories on refugee women, which were collected from the website of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and analyzed based on the theory of Functional Systemic Grammar and, more specifically, the concepts of Generic Structure Potential and Real Structure by Hasan (1989). The analysis revealed a group of seven structural elements, namely: characterization; problem in the country of origin; escape; arrival in the host country; problem in the host country; opportunity in the host country; and social retribution. We also noted that the only mandatory element is characterization. We hope that this work can contribute in some way to a better understanding of the issue of refugee women.
