LITERATURA DO TRAUMA: THEO DECKER E SUA JORNADA COMO SOBREVIVENTE EM O PINTASSILGO DE DONNA TARTT

Abstract

The researcher chose to analyze The Goldfinch (2013) from the perspective of trauma literature, a sub-genre created after the events of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in the United States on 9/11/2001. In the novel studied, this perspective highlights its social, cognitive, emotional and psychological effects on a child survivor of a terrorist attack. The work is seen as a contemporary bildungsroman, following the journey of the protagonist Theo Decker and his coping with post-traumatic stress disorder and feelings of survivor's guilt.Trauma literature emphasizes the importance of survivors' narratives. In addition, Freud's studies and clinical analysis help to understand trauma in the human psyche, including survivor's guilt. It is concluded that Theo's narrative offers an insight into the impact of violent events on children, highlighting the importance of such narratives in understanding traumatic experiences that influence literature by representing contemporary concerns.
