Representatividade de mulheres trans e travestis no cenário político brasileiro: avanços e desafios

Abstract

The search for representation and inclusion has been a central topic in political and social discussions around the world. In the Brazilian context, this search also extends to trans and transvestite women, whose role in politics and society has been a topic of growing interest and reflection. The objective of this article is to carry out an analysis of the characteristics of the candidacies of transvestites and transgender women in Brazilian elections between the years 2014 and 2022, using an approach based on existing literature. To this end, the descriptive statistical method was adopted, which allowed the candidacies to be characterized and a profile of candidates, parties and performances to be identified. The analysis was based on a bibliographical review that focused on political representation, comparing the debate on values, political culture and the rejection of difference, factors that influence the performance of transvestites and transgender women's candidacies in the electoral process. Data from the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (ANTRA) and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) were used, revealing the presence of 481 candidacies in the elections between the years 2014 and 2022. The article also fulfills the purpose of highlighting the need for studies to deconstruct stereotypes and prejudices, as well as to promote diversity and guarantee political representation in society.
