Entre Vargas e a Paraíba : centralização político-administrativa e controle da informação na interventoria de Anthenor Navarro (1930-1932)

Abstract

In this article, we analyze the relationship between the press and politics in Paraíba during the first years of the Vargas Era, notably the power relations between Anthenor Navarro's intervention and the control of information during 1930-1932. The objective was to understand how the newspaper A União was used to legitimize the actions of this intervention. To this end, we analyzed editions of the newspaper A União, augmented by a bibliographical review of existing studies on Paraíba politics, intervention and communication. From this perspective, the facts studied allow us to perceive the importance of the official press in the context of legitimization and control of information. It is concluded, therefore, that the press played an indispensable role in building the image of intervener Anthenor Navarro, consolidating his image and repositioning the State at the center of power.
