EFEITO DOS CANABINOIDES NO TRATAMENTO DA FIBROMIALGIA

Abstract

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain associated with cognitive symptoms, fatigue, sleep disorders and psychiatric symptoms. The current prognosis is challenging, with limited treatment options and impaired quality of life. Considering the increased use of phytocannabinoids and their potential in the treatment of chronic pain, these substances may represent an important therapeutic approach for fibromyalgia. OBJECTIVES: to gather studies and analyze the available clinical evidence on the use of medicinal cannabis in the treatment of fibromyalgia. METHODOLOGY: A search was conduced out using the following descriptors: “fibromyalgia” AND “cannabis” on Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde do Ministério da Saúde (BVS MS) and PubMed in the last 10 years. RESULTS: From a total of 181 citations, 9 studies were included after screening the title, abstracts and full text. Of these studies, 2 were randomized controlled trials, 4 observational studies, and 3 systematic reviews. CONCLUSION: Although current evidence is limited, medicinal cannabis appears to be a safe alternative for the treatment of fibromyalgia. However, more studies on this topic are important so that there is strong evidence of its effectiveness in controlling pain in patients with fibromyalgia.
